Discussion Topic: 2012 FILA Jr. Nationals: 74 kg

I expected to see both Hunter Stieber and Kenny Courts registered. Maybe we still will. Courts actually posted on twitter "my FILA bracket just got real. Let's get it on." But I do not see him registered.

I'm anxious to see Courts results against solid competition. Same for Chris Phillips. Both guys have the potential to be great additions to the young Bucks.

Quote from Bob Preusse's post:

"MikeR, i gather from how u phrased it that you believe Marsteller dominates 74 kg, over Chris Phillips and Massa?"

I was trying to temper my enthusiasm, but clearly I didn't do a good job. Yes, I think Marsteller will win this bracket. I think Marsteller is PA's version of Logan Stieber. Remember when Stieber beat Sanders before his junior year? I think Marsteller will have those kinds of statement wins while still in high school. I think it will start here. He's a freestyle specialist, at the right weight. I can't wait to see it.

Marsteller is a horse for a sophomore in HS. But I just don't see him winning this bracket. If a high schooler is to win it, my pick is Taylor Massa.

That's a pretty reasonable take, I can't really argue with it. I must admit, I'm a little concerned with Massa, Brunson and Phillips having a size advantage coming down from 170, but it's my opinion that Marsteller is, right now, the best wrestler in high school.

Marsteller could be all that-- but i recall the Ed Ruth, who dominated college this season, as a hs senior only beat soph Chris Phillips 3-2 in the Ironman.

if Phillips is now as serious about wrestling as i think he is -- -- ? Phillips was once pretty good at freestyle too, virtually unscored on in 2 years of fargo cadets.
