Can't say I see Michalak winning this, though he did beat Varner once."

"
Dake is truly under appreciated by most fans."

he is? thats news to me-- i think its pretty well conceded he's an all time great college wrestler. Made AWN short list of 5 greatest college ever, not too shabby."

I mean top 5 for a guy who won 4 titles in 4 weights isn't exactly surprising.

I would agree that Dake doesn't get the fanfare relative to his accomplishments.
---------------------------------------------

i merely said Dake was recognized -imo- for his greatness. AWN Top 5 ALL-TIME, those are big words-- all-time -- poll included opinions of wrestling historians like Jay Hammond & Don Sayenga, so thats an honor indeed.

Those guys have seen the greats going way way back, they had Dake top 5. The first of the 3 4xers Pat Smith didnt make top 5 list. Dan Gable diidnt make the top 5 college list, so Dake has been recognized at least by those in the know. ...s/BobP

"Dake beats Howe 4-2 in OT.....match lasted over 11 minutes!!!!

Sets up Dake v Burroughs in best of 3 finals tonight!!! Any predictions???"

Burroughs. First reason...he's the undefeated champ. 2nd...Dake has run the gauntlet and has to be a bit worn out. Still, what a day for Dake!"

I agree with you, Hank. I see JB going 2-0.

"Logan loses 5-4 to Jimmy Kennedy in semis. D-mn!"

Then he TF's Waters, Hochstrasser & Simmons. That one 1 point match did him in. And I'd bet money if he went to Worlds he'd score more points than anyone the USA is sending at 60KG. Frustrating!

Harry and Reece both one win away from making another world team.

Oh, also... Taylor teched Andrew Howe... in :50 seconds. That trapped arm gut wrench is the death sentence.

This mini tourney process is brutal. Please note that the three freestyle tourney winners were all crushed in the finals. Hump, Bergman and Burroughs all cruised. Burroughs was the only one to even have one tough bout.

Logan came back strong but has to be disappointed. Still, it was nice to see him finish true second.

It was good for Dake to get it handed to him in match 1 with Burroughs Those are the kinds of matches that resets your thinking and training. I love Burroughs and I hope he never gets knocked-off until he just retires, but it's hard not to root for Dake as well. This will really motivate Dake and it will be interesting to see what a year of full-time FS training does for him. Pretty sweet that we have so many great guys in that class.

The writing is on the wall where 60kg is headed. When Logan can solely commit to FS...WHEW!

We have really good depth across the board in our FS program right now. It's time to get back to the top as a team. Hopefully that can happen over the next couple of years.

60K and 74K have huge depth.

What is the "handwriting" of which you speak, Mr. Campbell?

What do people think of the 7 point "tech fall" so far?

To me it seems like it should be 10 points so that the matches last a little bit longer and we might see some comebacks. In the 84KG challenge tournament 11 of the 12 matches were tech falls. That's messed up.

Also, should we have the best two out of three matches the day after the challenge tournaments? That way there can be some excitement building up for the match ups. The way it is now, the winner of the challenge tournament is exhausted by the time he gets to the big match. How much better would the Dake vs. Burroughs match been if they'd both been fresh?

7 points is too quick of a tech fall IMO. It's easier to end a match now than it was to end a period under the old rules. Crazy.

The thing is, it wasn't all that common under the old rules for one guy to win one period by tech and lose the match. Or for one guy to win by tech one period and lose by tech another period.

Despite this, the new rules are far superior to the old.

I'm with you, Ben. The new rules are definitely better if for no other reason than no more ball-sack nonsense.

I would also like to see the American overtime in international competitions.

The 7 point tech is pretty brutal considering one solid gut can get you three turns pretty easily....
