I think Gross bumped up to 141 to wrestle Bryce Meredith. Both were top 3 at their weights that year, I can't recall the result.

Lots of examples of bumping up working and not working.
If I was in the Lee camp I would highly recommend he does not bump up. He has been injured a lot and bumping up only increases the chance of injury.
I don't think it affects the outcome of the dual.

If Lee bumps up he’ll get beaten and possibly injured. Bad idea and one I really doubt Brands is considering.

i think Lee bumps up, he;s a legacy wrestler not a cautious one, witness his HS state final with torn ACL. Other famous "bump ups":..
both ranked #1, a junior David Taylor bumps up to defeat another 4XER sr Colin Powell in dual.
Mark Schultz bumps up and defeats 2xer champ (would become 3xer) Ed Banach NCAA finals.
in the loudest gym ever Gonsor of St Eds bumps up the last match for national title vs Blair, got 2 TKDWNS & hung on for dear life to beat much bigger Blair kid in famed 2007 dual.
St Eds Alan Fried an all time HS great, bumps up vs N. Allegheny PA over there and gets whipped by Catalone but St Eds takes back their national title wins dual anyway.

Bob, good list but most are HS matches. Bump ups in college are uncommon. Brands isn’t putting Lee in harm’s way at 133.

If I’m being honest, this dual was closer than I thought it would be. Iowa almost always shows up. Yes they’ve had a handful of down performances, but they always battle and I respect that. That being said, even in loses Penn State just looks so much more athletic than just about everyone else. As someone said in another post, you can see the next wave of guys on the horizon.

I don’t know if I agree the guys mentioned as being the next guys up all lost.
Bartlett finally wrestled someone and lost and wasn’t that close he did nothing
VanNess lost and again did nothing
Facudo had one nice duck attempt but did nothing the entire match but backup
Haines will be the one but he won’t make 157 again after this year so someone will have to sit.
