Discussion Topic: OSU vs. Minnesota (1/11)

Mark:

I am actually excited to see how Pete Capone does against Nelson tonight.

I know, you have to favor the defending national champion. BUT, Pete has been wrestling well this year and only has three losses and all of them are to #10 or better opponents. (Hanke/Felix/Thommesiut)

The practice time this spring and summer in the OTC with Bergman, Rowlands, and Dlagnev had to be great for his development and confidence.

And the win against Telford in Carver Hawkeye was huge for him. Obviously this is another big test for him, but so far he has shown allot of growth since last year. - He is wrestling with allot of heart.

I remember the old Frank Sinatra song-line from New York-New York: 'If you can do it there, You can do it anywhere', - I hope that line works for Pete, he did it in Carver Hawkeye, next up is Tony Nelson in comfy St Johns!

I wear oversized scarlet colored glassed.....but the percentages are better of this being 7/3 in favor of Minnesota than it is 5/5.

I didn't mean for my comments about Capone to be taken as a slight. He's wrestling fantastic this year and while I agree that he wrestles with great heart, what he also does is wrestle with great technique, polish and savy. He's a legit AA contender at a time when the heavyweight is as deep and talented as I can remember. I wish him the best.

Jamie: Your point is well taken, but there is allot of tough close matches in this meet that really go either way. - On the road at Iowa last week all of those close ones went against us, but I am hoping a few of them go our way tonight, like the Iowa match did last year here.

Also, I think that 5-5 prediction included Logan, that is not available, so it's really a 4-6.

The following matches all include two highly ranked opponents that could go either way:
125: Triggas vs. Thorn
149: Tessari vs. Ness
155: Demas vs Zilverburg
174: Heflin vs. Storley
184: Magrum??? vs. Steinhaus
197: Campo vs. Schiller
285: Capone vs. Nelson.

Unfortunately, OSU probably needs to win 5 of those 7 to win the match. - My optimistic scarlet glasses hopeful prognosis is wins by: Triggas, Tessari, Demas, Heflin, and Campo. - I don't know if it reasonable to expect that, but it's my scarlet glasses, so who knows!

The other three matches, I would expect Dardanes to major Visconti at 133, Hunter to decision the other Dardanes at 141, and Yohn to decision Martin at 165.

GOOD LUCK BUCKS!!!

Please note that the Bucks "probable" lineup lists Visconti. While I doubt Logan wrestles, the "probable lineup" on a website means nothing.

I said it earlier in the thread but this match is difficult for Ohio State. Every match where the Bucks are favored should be close. But the weights where Minny is likely to win, they are the obvious favorites.

It will take a perfect effort. It would help if Logan were able to compete.

Logan out, take that to the bank-- however buckeyes will wrestle inspired effort win or lose, after azz-blistering talk by Ryan last weekend.

vs Iowa 2 guys wrestled really well, Capone and Demas, tonite many wrestle really well, i believe. ...s/BobP

Per Ryans minny preview....logan out...said could probably be ready next weekend with indiana but kind of hinted at holding him out till feb. 1st with illinois. Also of interest, ryan said wrestleoffs at 149 and 184 would take place january 25th.

The absolute, ABSOLUTE thing I do not want is for Logan to come back too soon and re-injure himself.

Ryan seemed pretty confident that Logan "could" go next weekend....but you definatly got the sense he was thinking why rush him back against Indiana.

yes and no. Pretty sure flash is used, which won't run on an ipad.

Ian Paddock looked great tonight against Ness. He was really aggressive. But, if you all have not figured it out yet, I'm a big Ness fan. Gees that kid does some zanny stuff and comes out in good position.

Kudos to Paddock. He was just too under-sized for Ness. But it was pretty exciting when he was up 4-1. Good stuff.

Logan did NOT wrestle. Bucks are up 9-8. Paddock in at 149 and lost to Ness. Tessari won at 157. Demas is wrestling Yohn at 165. I'm assuming all of that was to minimize the points loss at 165. I thinking they thought Martin would give up at least a major. Demas is battling and 1-1 in the 3rd.

Demas takes it to OT!

Demas gives up the TD in OT and looses 3-1. Good match for him against the much bigger Yohn.
