There's a lot of parity in college wrestling as access to good coaching, video work and training methods continues to spread.

Look at how the Big Ten got wiped out at 125 first round.

Rex--Smith can certainly beat Plott if that's how it plays out.

Bucks have a definite path to four AA's if they wrestle to form moving forward. I'm thinking specifically of Sasso, Kharchla, Romero and Smith.

Heinselman is at a brutal weight and faces Barnett next round of cons. The list of wrestlers in the cons at 125 is littered with AA caliber talent.

Hoffman is the wildcard. Beat Woodley and AA. Otherwise, he probably has to wrestle Cam Caffey.

Tate Orndorff is in a tough spot but that's nothing new for him at NCAA's. He's done it twice.

Bucks can still have a very good tournament.

Let's wait until the end of the weekend before we get rid of coaches or force wrestlers into the transfer portal. Bucks after day one are still primed for a fine tournament.

Smith's loss was a heartbreaker, but as the 7 seed, he can still wrestle to expectations. In all probability he was not going to capture a title or make the finals. I still like him to make the podium, but he'll need to take out Massa or Plott to get there. Not easy.

Props to the corner for challenging the call that led to Hoffman's first takedown against Bonaccorsi. Had Jaggers not thrown the brick, Hoffman probably doesn't win. Next up is Oklahoma's Woodley. That's winnable and would give Hoffman AA honors for the first time.

These brackets are loaded. Already out of title contention are national champs Carr and O'Connor, and runner-ups Eierman, Bonaccorsi (Hoffman) and Wentzel (Kharchla).

The upsets will continue Friday. Can Romero take out Brooks? Don't rule it out.

Props to Sasso for grinding out the win over Barlett, never an easy task. Something's off this season, but for the most part, Sammy finds ways to win.

If Hoffman loses to Woodley I don't think he gets Caffey on the back side. Looks like he'd have one of Stout (18), Norfleet (16), Bastida (10), or Smith (25). But let's just hope he beats Woodley.

197: Aiello (UVA) should have had back points against Dean (PSU).

Yeah. That's some supreme bullshit. Ref was out of position and there was clearly two full seconds of exposure.

Meanwhile, D'Emilio gets Eierman this morning. On the surface, that sucks. But Eierman appears to be wrestling hurt. I think D'Emilio puts him out.

If Heinselman can get past Barnett this morning, he has a path to AA. Barnett (on paper) is the toughest guy he'll have to beat. Next, he'd get the winner of Ayala v Camacho. And then the quarter loser, which is likely to be Sam LaTona.

I believe Eierman is wrestling with a torn ACL and Iowa boards are wondering if he will even wrestle today. DD needs to be all over him and keep it to a 1-2 match in the 3 and win with pace.

Aiello did absolutely get hosed. I saw the replay while the review was ongoing and was 100% sure two near fall would be called. Was absolutely floored when it wasn’t. Someone must be on Caels payroll. Buckeyes had a rough round one start but have come back strong to this point. Could be a tough day today as most will be wrestling against higher seeds. Still a long way to go and hopeful we can end the tournament with 4 to 6 AAs. Go Bucks!

If D'Emilio can get past Eierman, he also has a path.

As I look at the brackets, I'm aware of how difficult it is to string together wins at NCAA's. But the Bucks have a history of doing it and wrestling at the Big Ten tourney can be helpful in this regard.

Orndorff has the most difficult road. He has a winnable match with Surber but would likely have to beat Hendrickson and the loser of Schultz/Parris to make it back on the podium.
