Are there any videos of the Toal v. Jordan match? Heard that this was also a great match up. From what I've been hearing/reading about this youngster he is on the cusp of being something very special.

As highly as we regard Toal, I think he might be the most underrated wrestler in Ohio. He has beaten Jameson, albeit on a Jameson mistake, and I keep feeling that he is ever so close to beating Jordan, but never does. It's a shame that he is right in the set of weights where the buckeyes are loaded, because I would love to see him come to Columbus. He doesn't have the resume to be a top 12 nationally (not yet, anyway), but I have little doubt he could give those who are all they can handle, and would likely beat several of the 6-12 type guys.

I remember hearing a lot about how Jameson gave that match away. After watching it, while I agree he made a pretty big error giving up two and two late in the second period like that, the match was tied 8-8 in the third. The
winning takedown
was a well-executed front headlock by Toal. My point is, that yes there was a Jameson mistake in the bout, but I wouldn't say that Toal won the match "on a Jameson mistake."
It will be interesting to see how Toal develops during his senior season.

You are right, Toal got the takedown with the match tied, when both knew they needed points, Toal got them, not Jameson. Give him all the credit in the world for that. However, Jameson is riding in the waning moments of the second period with a lead, just ride him out, do the safe thing. But not doing the safe thing is what makes Tony Jameson Tony Jameson, and makes him as entertaining as he is.

Thanks for the encouraging words but they are right.
In fact I'm going to try and convince Tony to start winning and losing his matches 2-1 and 3-2 so when we lose thousands of fans a year and hundreds of programs a year and Michael Rodriguez's great-grandkids don't have wrestling as an option we'll all have some bitter 3-2 runner-up to thank for that.
The sport needs wrestlers like Tony and anyone who loves wrestling better hope I can't convince him to change his ways! Haha.

I love parents of athletes, they're always so objective. Read the post, Mr. Jameson. No one said anything negative about your son or his crowd-pleasing style. All due respect goes to this future 4Xer. He's earned it. I was just making an observation (a correct one, btw) about the match and Pat's assertion that Tony's mistake was the deciding factor.
For the record, I don't think my opinions or your son's wrestling are going to subtract or add
thousands
of fans a year or
hundreds
of programs a year. I think you may be reading a little too much Internet hype. <crazy>

As a matter of fact,
Reading back, I am sort of ashamed talking about Tony on this topic when it should be about Zach. He's a super wrestler, super kid, and has an outstanding work ethic. In fact he got exactly what he deserved in that match and he IS destined for greatness, and he wont have to wait for his senior year for it.
You'll see however, when you become a father, where I'm coming from. He will always be one of my boys. If he was a serial killer and you called him a serial killer, I would be offended. Do you follow?

Mr. Jameson... Well said. I totally understand. I'm the proud father of a three-year-old that can do no wrong. Sorry if my post came off defensive. I tend to shoot first and ask questions later on these forums (a personality trait that gets me in trouble from time to time).

After reading these posts concerning the Jameson-Toal match, the one thing that stuck out most for me after announcing it for TV wasn't the points gave up at the end of the period or the win for Toal, etc. What stood out for me was the class shown by Tony after he lost. Here's a kid who almost never loses who showed complete respect for Toal...a sincere congratulations to his opponent, no headgear throwing, no whining and running off the mat, a smile on the podium in the number "2" spot. In my book, this sport could use countless Tony Jamesons, and honestly, many coaches should take a page out of his book also. I respect his parents, he seemed to be raised like a gentleman. Oh yeah, he is one hell of a fun wrestler to watch and announce also!

In regard to the parenting maunal, I'm a volunteer coach of a youth team and father of very young wrestler. I'd guess that there are multides that would love to see your version of the parenting manual. From what I've gathered, you've developed a fine young man in both wrestling and life in general. Consider the honor and respect that was dislpayed when losing to Toal.

This is the way that I expect my son and our team to handle similar situations. More easily said than done. I think that most coaches would agree. Be proud, very proud - of both his acomplishments and more importantly how he carries himself.

I also agree with Mr. Cole, Tony is one hell of a fun wrestler to watch! Some of the things that I've seen him pull off (all on video) against high level competition, has dropped my jaw. He is an exciting athlete to watch and great for the sport. I look forward to sitting with my son during the State finals and watching him earn another title. Best of luck!
