Isn't Jameson up to five losses now? I seem to remember him with three as a freshman, then the one to Habat last year, and Toal this year.

i count 4 career hs losses for Tony J as of today: one his frosh year, none his soph year, Habat last season --and 2 this season, Toal & Ben Jordan.

at 145 Tony could face (145) Walt Peppelman or (152) Mallie Shuster, Dapper Dan gives 5 lb (and some say even more).

Come on Preusse??? You should know this stuff. I'm counting six.

Tony Jameson was 38-3 as a freshman, (without a Distict title). 42-0 as a sophomore, 44-1 last year with tthe loss to Habat. Then there's the two losses this season to Toal and Jordan.

Brecksville '05 - lost 8-5 to Jeff Pelton
Brecksville '05 - lost 6-5 to Dante Rini
District '05 - lost 6-5 to Dante Rini

District '07 - lost 5-3 to David Habat
Brecksville '08 - lost 11-9 to Zach Toal
Top Gun '08 - lost 8-7 to Ben Jordan

It is an honor and a privelege to be selected for Dapper Dan this year and Tony is very excited and hopes to represent Ohio and wrestling in general to the best of his abilities. He would also like to thank the wrestling community in Ohio for all there encouragement and support for the last four years up to this point.

I also believe whether he's one of the best in the country or not, that he does wrestle an exciting match and has alot of FUN with the sport. This being a charity event, they obviously want to sell tickets and feel Tony may help sell a few tickets which is also flattering. Therefore any fans of Tony's who aren't going to Jr. High states could show support by attending the Dapper Dan that day or making a donation to Dapper Dan charities.

Thanks again,
Ken Jameson

ok Rodriguez, if u say so--- u and i counted the same except i had him with one loss his frosh year, u had him with 3---- the other 3 years we agreed. My memory not bad at my age. Ha, ha i've got alot to try to remember, too, its a big country.

yes best of luck Mr Jameson to Tony--- btw in the last 20 years only one or 2 Ohio kids have lost while representing Team USA. Steve Luke lost and maybe one other ?? someone help my memory, ha, ha.

Mr Jameson,

Tony will be a crowd pleaser at Fitzgerald fieldhouse. ---- i recall when Johnny McGhee was on USA team, he hit a couple breathtaking throws that had the crowd ooohhhiing and aahhhing.

as Billie Jean King loved to say, "Pressure is a privelege." Tony will do just fine at Dapper Dan, and at Ohio St as well. He might be part of a budding dynasty, that remains to be seen but is possible ? Tony reminds me of ex-Oklahoma St 165 (or thereabouts) Shane Roller, never won NCAAs but wowed the crowd with stunning big move pinning combinations, took 3rd his senior year.

Very solid team for the USA. Some analysis included. Also a look at the PA opposition potentially.

112: Futrell is a bona fide stud and the clear pick for seniors here. Put it this way, when you're keeping contact - and even going neck and neck - against David Taylor in FS/GR, you're very good. PA could have Rappo here, though he's cut down to 103 for state series (why I don't know), or a 119 coming down (like Snyder, Cortese, or Handlovic).

119: Long has been at 125 for all of the season. He's had a terrific year, defined by his win at the Toshiba Midwest (aka KCWA) Classic. Junior Greco champion at 112 if I recall correctly. Beat Triggas in a Junior Regonal last year - maybe even in FS. PA is proably looking at Reno ToC runner-up Handlovic. The Reno ToC champ Williams is a senior; however, he took a "hit" at Five Counties this past weekend.

125: Owen is a JN FS runner-up at 119 pounds last summer - took Oliver right to the death of that match. Probably the second best 125# nationally behind fellow senior Nate Moore - you never know what exactly goes into these picks (interest, etc). You'll probably see a 130# state champ dropping down here - my prediction is 2A favorite Derek Reber of Lewisburg.

130: Graff is a multi-time Fargo All-American, last two summers in the JN FS competition. Two summers ago, he knocked off Mike Grey in the pools just to lose to Mangrum in the final. Best USA senior option. I bet you they match him up with Jordan Oliver in the evening's feature bout.

135: Weber is another multi-time Fargo All-American, this past summer in the JN FS 130# competition. Weber does have two losses on the season, both were at 140 pounds though one was to a 135 pound wrestler up a weight (Morse and Brumley). Though given the overall options for seniors, this is a more than reasonable one - especially if you can save Nick Hucke (Arrowhead WI) for that undercard. Weber probably will see Colin Johnston in a rematch of a pool battle from Fargo.

140: Chamberlain is a clear #1 and a multiple time Fargo All-American, double finalist as a Junior this past summer - split finals bouts with Richmond of Oregon. Ironman champ - Powerade runner-up to Peppelman - Jordan Shields of Burrell (2A favorite) is the likely candidate.

145: Jameson has the two losses as have been covered ad nauseum and from every angle possible on Ohio forums. However, as a likely 4x Ohio state champion with an exciting style, his match should be enjoyable for fans. Any number of other kids would have been a viable option - Mangrum, Mason, and Ironman champ Burns coming straight to the top of my head. As to a PA opponent, how about Walter Peppelman in a Super32 finals rematch - or Brock Parker (2A favorite).

152: Meade is a 2x Ironman and Beast of the East champion, a 2x Cadet FS champion, and was JN FS AA this past summer. You really couldn't go wrong in this weight between him and Deitchler. Meade's pace and explosion could provide for some terrific action. Shuster is the best 152 in PA; however, you could see either one of the 145's move up or Powerade champion Steve Bosak move down from 160#. If it's Shuster, this is probably the biggest mismatch of the DD.

160: Jason Welch is an absolute wrestling freak; kid was a JN FS 5th placer after his freshman year of HS beating Sean Nemec in the medal match. Ironman champion as a junior, and a multi-time Reno champion. Also was a Midlands placer this past year. Bosak is the best "on-weight" option. However, you could see one of the top two senior 171# wrestlers cutting down - either Quentin Wright (3A) or Corey Beaver (2A), both defending champs. Welch v Wright would match up wrestlers that have competed and succeeded against college kids this year.

171: Chris Spangler is currently the top non-PA senior in this weight class; however, that will be challenged for in his own state series by Jordan Blanton, a 2x JN FS AA. Spangler has a major decision over Brian Roddy and a pin against Grant Gambrall (IA) to his credit this year. See above with Wright and Beaver as options.

189: With how balanced this weight is up at the top nationally, Romero Cotton is as good a choice as any. You could pick from about half a dozen kids and argue whom is the best. PA option is probably the 3A champion whomever that may be - this weight is very balanced, as defending champion Nate Eachus (Hazleton) is currently about fifth.

215: Tyrell Fortune has spent much of this season up at 285. However, he has had tremendous Fargo campaigns over the last three summers with high double AA's in every year. Jordan Enck of Manheim Central is the current 3A state favorite; however, this match is Fortune's by a large margin.

285: Eric Thompson is the nation's #1 285 off of two consecutive JN double AA finishes and a 6-0 win at the Clash Duals over Garrett Goebel. 285 for the PA team is likely to be 2A favorite Paul Snyder of Mt Pleasant - Powerade runner-up to BOE champ Cook, loss in OT.

Bob: Could Spangler be your out-of-state possibility for TOSU at 174? I didn't see a commitment listed.

RF,
now that u mention it, Spangler from Illinois ranked # 3 by AWN at 171 lb is in fact unsigned-- and U of Illinois has signed # 2 Blanton and Iowa has signed # 4 Gambrall. hmmmm ????

Would love to see Spangler in Scarlet and Gray. He would be a great fit at 174 a desperate spot for the Buckeyes as I wonder how Magrum would handle the cut for a whole season there. My guess it could be similar to Esposito start off hot fade at the end.

Spangler, from what I've been told, is a terrific wrestler and solid student. Bucks erase a whole lot of future lineup issues if they land him (or someone comparable).

Congrats to Austintown Fitch coaching staff - Tony and family - there will be great wrestlers to come in the Youngstown area and even one day someone who rattles off multiple state championships - but there will always only be one Tony Jameson - he has electrified the whole Youngstown area - everyone talks about him - everyone can't wait to see him wrestle and the younger wrestlers in the area all look up to him and want to be like him - what more can you ask for - there will never be another wrestler like Tony Jameson but he has left alot of his wrestling persona that the younger generation will pick up - he sends a great message - just wrestle and don't be afriad to try new moves - I'm going to enjoy watching his last couple of weeks as a high schooler. Best of luck to Tony and family.

Thanks coach. See ya this weekend.

Spangler = Stud

A tidbit... A 60 pound Spangler beat Tony in the Tulsa Semis in '99 or '00 then goes on to beat Skonieczny for the title.
Great kid, great family, in fact I believe he has two brothers - one older and one younger. Super pickup for the Buckeyes if it's true.

Come on, Bob... spill the beans!
