Discussion Topic: Ohio State v. Michigan State - Tonight

A quick look at the matchups:

125: Triggas v. Trombly
133: Humphrey v. Gomez
141: Jaggers v. Wimberley
149: Palmer v. Skowneski
157: Johnstone v. Fulger
165: Sponseller v. Kendle
174: Picazo v. Murphy
184: Pucillo v. Palmieri
197: Weakley v. Williams
285: Bergman v. O'Donnell

Ohio State looks to be favored in seven matchups: 125, 141, 149, 157, 165, 184 and 285. Humphrey has yet another tough bout as he faces off against #2 Franklin Gomez--a legit national title contender. Picazo's opponent, John Murphy, is ranked #8 in the Big Ten according to bigelevenwrestling.net. Certainly this match is winnable although I'm wondering if Tom Priestley might get another start. Pucillo takes on former Mayfield 215, Nick Palmieri. Palmieri has "shrunk" considerably since leaving the "anything goes" environment of Mayfield. His muscle mass must not be what it once was. Hmmm....
This match is nice to have before Michigan as it could serve as a good tuneup for that dual. Still, MSU has nothing to lose, they're home, and the Bucks have to guard against overconfidence. Hopefully, the Bucks wrestle with fire, get a big win, then return to Columbus and wait for Sunday.

I see this match much like the Purdue match a blowout in a sense. Ohio State heavy favorites in a lot of matches hopefully they wrestle with the same intensity they have all year long and dominate MSU tonight.

The match is being broadcast live on msuwrestling.com.

MSU has a pretty good website. Their team may be weak this year, but they're getting Tank and some other good recruits next year, and they only graduate one starter.

Humphrey vs. Gomez should be a sweet matchup. And this could be Weakley's chance to beat somebody good. Let's go for the shutout!

I echo your comments about the MSU website. Minkel is a good promoter. Fortunately, the Bucks have picked up their site several notches this season.
I love the Buckeye Wrestling Show.

Just got on and am watching the match right now, it looks like Bergman won. Triggas is currently winning 7-0 in the middle of the second period off of a first period takedown and a second period takedown with 3 NF from a cradle. Triggas takes down. Triggas reversal while his opponent was riding too high with the legs 9-0. Triggas' opponent gets a reversal on the edge 9-2. Triggas gets cut 10-3. Triggas almost gives up a takedown on the edge. Match ends with riding time for Triggas 11-3 and a major decision. The announcer mentions OSU is ahead 10-0 right now.

Owen Schaefer against Franklin Gomez.
Gomez with a slide-by for 2. Schaefer with an escape, followed by another takedown by Gomez. 2 sets of 2 NF from Gomez via tilt and cradle. Second period begins with Gomez down, quick escape followed by a takedown and quick 2 NF backpoints from a cradle. 3rd Period with neutral, takedown and near fall, nearly a pin for Gomez, ends with a techfall.

J Jaggers' opponent with a leg and drives J out of bounds but no takedown. J's opponent on a big double but J tries to scramble, opponent grabs his ankle, injury time. Back to the action. Another shot by his opponent, but J scrambles and gets behind for 2. Mike escapes but is hobbling around as he gets back to the center. J uses a throwby and puts his opponent on his back for 3 NF. Opponent tries a granby but J hangs on. 2nd Period, Jaggers is down and uses a switch for the escape. Some shot attempts by Jaggers but nothing happens the rest of the period. 3rd Period, Neutral. His opponent scores a takedown after J's shot, holds on to prevent a major decision.

In a little change of things T.J. Enright is in for Palmer. Near takedown for Skowneski on the edge, no takedown. Takedown for Enright, let's him up after a few seconds of riding. Enright hits him with a single, then a double for the takedown, letting him up quickly. 2nd Period, Enright down. Enright is able to escape after his opponent rides tough. Enright jumps out of his opponents low single for the takedown. And my connection cuts out. Looks like there was an escape and another takedown by Enright at the edge. 3rd period, Enright was on top, let's him go. Another solid double by T.J. for a 9-3 score. T.J. cuts Skowneski, shot attempt by his opponent and holds onto T.J.'s leg until the end of the period.
