Best regular season tournament of the year this weekend. Buckeyes sending the bulk of their regular starters. Some interesting starters. Pre seeds have been released.
125- McCrone (6)
133- Bousakis (4)
141- Mendes (1)
149- Brown
157- Gallagher (4)
165- Sasso (2)
174- Chase
184- Shumate (8)
197- Geog (7)
285- Feldman (4)
I haven’t looked at some of the open rosters but I’m assuming there are some injuries or other ailments keeping D’Emilio out. What’s less clear is what’s going on with Kharchla and Rygotskie. I’m wondering if Carson will just be a second semester competitor. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities that Shumate beat out Ryder for 184, so I’m even less clear of what’s going on there. I think this will truly show if Sammy is on a championship caliber level or not. I think it’s likely we see him take some loses this weekend. This is also a weekend where Geog can establish himself as an AA contender in a very deep field. He doesn’t possess many highly ranked wins as a starter yet. This is an opportunity to showcase that. Likewise, Feldman will have his opportunity to see Hendrickson and several other contenders.

We haven't seen Rogotzke since Nov. 14, and Shumate moved back down to 184 after that, so why? And I think Cannon or Herman needs to go back down to 149 if DD is dinged up, having them both at 157 as backup to Gallagher doesn't make sense. It may be a precautionary move to keep Ryder and DD out of the lineup at this point in the season, we just don't know.

How does Colton Shultz get the #3 seed when Feldman (#4 seed) beat him 11-4 in their con. match at Nationals last year???

McCrone goes down 3-0 in the quarters. Not having the ability to generate offense off a leg attack is going to make it difficult to crack the top 8. Bousakis just isn’t the answer at 133. He’s too hot and cold. Can’t find offense or stamina when he needs it. He’s very frustrating to watch. Jesse wins in a 5-1 bout where the Virginia Tech kid gave him a solid go. Same kid that beat him two years ago.

Paddy stretches out an OT win over Paniro Johnson. Sammy loses 6-4. He has great techniques but they just don't work the same when he's giving up a lot of size.

I think Sammy would do better at 157, but what do you do with Paddy? Jumping one weight is ok, but jumping two can be too much.

Sammy is a spectacular talent but he's outsized at 165. Are there medical reasons why he can't cut weight?

Thompson from OU beats the 1 seed and #3 ranked guy in quarters.
He moved from 65 to 74. Some early growing pains at the new weight but having a great weekend.

Edging out a win over Pinero Johnson is a solid win for Paddy. I’m not sure he wins that match in previous years. Johnson reminds me of Yaya Thomas. Sought, defensive, and low scoring. Good grind it out win for Paddy. I agree with everything everyone else said about Sammy. He dropped his conso match too and is out. The reality of what he’s dealing with is substantial. I don’t want to diminish what he’s been able to do because that in itself has been incredible. A more realistic goal is likely qualifying for nationals. That’s an amazing story in itself. Feldman rolls into the semis with a tech. McCrone, Bousakis, and Shumate pin their way into the consi quarters.
The Bucks are battling, but they are depleted. The match to look forward to is Feldman vs Hendrickson. It was not close at nationals. I’m curious to see if Nick has closed the gap. I think if Jesse wins a title, McCrone, Paddy, Shumate, and Feldman wrestle to or above their seed then you can call it a solid weekend. Bousakis has Ragusin in the consi quarters which is a likely loss. Okie State is for real

Oklahoma State is indeed for real. The day they hired David Taylor was a huge blow for the Buckeyes. If you're Ohio State, how do you counter?
