Of interest, in the TR interview on OSU website he said Cannon was injured in the ISU dual, and when he is ready Sasso and Cannon will wrestle off for 157 spot, and the loser will wrestle off Gallagher for the 165 spot. Ryder is adjusting to 184 after going up to 197, and will man the 184 spot, and Shumate, after wrestling well at 197, will stay there. TR said Shumate just has to work on finishing his matches. I noticed since Alirez hasn't wrestled since November, they moved Jesse up to #1 ranking at 141 now.

At what point is the sasso experiment over? He has beat no one relevant. Cannon and paddy you need to let finish the season and gain experience at the NCAA tourney.

Can he improve? Or are we seeing the best we'll ever see?

What went on after the Blaze/Sasso match whey Joey went over to the OSU bench? The camera didn't follow him but the announcers were saying there was some jawing going on?

Doesn't matter. I thought the Bucks wrestled a good dual. McCrone wrestled a sound match against Ramos. Gallagher did a fantastic job up a weight class.

I get the win at all costs attitude but there is more to sports than that. What is going on with Sammy transcends the sport on so many levels.
My guess is that anyone on the team except who he competes for a spot with is 100% behind him. It may not work out and he may not even wrestle NCAAs but he is going to get every well deserved chance to make it.

After Joey won it appeared as if he was doing some kind of celebratory gesture but that’s probably only known to him. The crowd didn’t like it, booed him mercilessly, and then he went over to shake the OSU coaches hands. Most of that was pretty docile. The weird part was that he walked off the mat by the OSU bench where some old guy/heckler types started chirping at him. I’m assuming he said something back and then his coaches ran to pull him back to the other side of the arena. I’m not real clear what or why he walked off towards the OSU bench but it was very odd.
On the wrestling front I wonder if Blaze just got himself too amped up for that match. He was all types of hyped up prior to the dual. Sometimes you can mentally exhaust yourself doing that kind of stuff prior to a match. I don’t think he wrestled well or even remotely to the level at which he is capable. The match should’ve probably went into overtime but did not. I don’t think Joey showed the caliber of wrestler that he is.
On a side note, match antics aside, I wonder how much Marcus’ recruiting rejection played a role in the fans reaction. Maybe nothing, but die hards know that still stings. It was all drama any which way you slice it

I thought Paddy looked good at 165. He seemed relaxed, energetic and did a nice job getting a reversal and fall.
Carson Kharchla had the performance of the dual. He looks better each week. He's starting to remind me of Romero.

Not so and well deserved is a stretch. There are many who would like to see the best option wrestle and that may not be Sasso. It's great he worked himself into wrestling condition and hope he appreciates the second chance given him. His is a complicated situation.

I like Paddy up at 165.
In favor of Wrestle offs.
To do otherwise, is to pick favorites and not acknowledge the efforts of others.

“ Not so and well deserved is a stretch.”
I’m intrigued by these comments and since there are clear negative connotations I hope you can be more clear. Im not around the team as you are but I haven’t heard anything negative about Sammy since he arrived.
In the end i’m all for wrestleoffs and have written so before but until then it seems he needs to wrestle some to see if he even gets one. I don’t think you just give it to him and that is not what I wrote.

I’m with Roe. That’s a pretty cryptic comment.

The best kid should wrestle. Looks like it will be a wrestle off between Cannon and Sasso. Cannon has worked his ass off and shouldn’t have to burn a year of eligibility bc of Sasso story if he is in fact better. Cannon also has a story just like Sassos. Cannon did not wrestle for 22 months in high school because he had a rare life threatening disease. You need to root for Cannons story just like Sassos.
Sasso has beaten zero guys in the top 40 per wrestlestat rankings.
Cannon has beaten a top 10 guy chittum and only lost his one match bc he endured an injury early in match. Also beat Herman.
Herman beat Fish Oklahoma states starter who got third at cklv and is a threat to AA.
Sasso may not even be the second best option currently, and I just don’t think he has enough time to get a lot better by seasons end. Regardless sasso’s season is still a success as not many would be able to do what he has done. He still got to the level of probably a fringe NCAA qualifier.

Why did Paddy Gallagher give up on 157 midseason? He’d been making the weight all season and looked good until the Illinois dual. The conference portion of the season is a little late to be going up a weight class. He will be undersized. I don’t get it.
Cannon deserves every chance to earn the starting spot at 157.
