Most interesting finals matchup or storyline? Tommy Rowlands makes the finals as a freshman!

Boyle-Feister at 215 in D2 is going to be a banger. Meister is the manchild of manchildren, Boyle was a freshman state champ at 165 last year, moved up 50 pounds, and has been destroying everyone. Two absolutely fantastic 10th graders who will have lots of suitors, and soon.

Neither Feister went to the podium. I'm avoiding them.

I had the 190 match (the younger brother) which was a rematch of the District final. That one ended ugly so as they shook hands I told them to keep it clean and wrestle like they should.
I had no idea that neither went to the podium until the next day.

Neither feister js interested in wrestling. They wrestle only a few months a year. They are strictly going to play football. They would be super talented if they actually wanted to wrestle.

Fair enough but is that a reason/excuse to skip the awards ceremony? One of them won and one of them finished second. If they don't want to wrestle, that is fine, then don't wrestle. No one except their coach will miss them. All they did was to take spots from guys who do want to wrestle.

I would hazard a guess that everyone on this forum would have loved to have had the ability to stand on top of a podium as a state champion. Would you have EVER thought of skipping the awards and being acknowledged as the best in the state? How would your coach, family, friends, and teammates have reacted?

Actually I have a few more pointed thoughts on this but I suspect that printing them would not be helpful.

Jim or anyone that cares to comment... I watched this match on YouTube. Yes, two massive high schoolers. Pretty intense match. My take:
-A lot of heavy hands and movement throughout
-Boyle had some nice shots midway, but Feister fought them off
-Feister had strong action at the end, but too late to turn the match
-If I saw it correctly, there were two illegal holds against Feister? I rewatched the 1st one around the 4:06 mark... refs have to be on their game this happens so fast. It looks like this one saw the potential, got underneath to get the best view of it.
-The 2nd illegal hold and subsequent coaching seemed strange to me. One of the Hoban coaches got on his cell phone(?). Is/was there some sort of person coaches use as a "phone a friend" to validate the call?
-Also during this down time, it looked like Feister was getting a drink of water from a cup. Is that allowed?
-Boyle was always toeing the line and it seemed Feister/Hoban was questioning things.

I have no dog in the hunt... just enjoy wrestling and always learning.

Here's the match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VcwTd4p1PI&t=328s

Interesting.

Jim, no dog in the fight. But what were the two illegal holds?

The ref certainly appeared to be in the right position to make the calls. I'm just not certain re the involved rules. Can you clarify?

Again, stating opinion like it’s fact. Have you spoken to either Feister about their plans or are you just armchair quarterbacking a high school kid’s goals and aspirations?

They have publicly stated they are not wrestling beyond high school. It is fact. They wrestle only during season. What’s your problem?

A buddy of mine kids go to Hoban and unless something has changed what Nick said is pretty factual.

Yes Mike they are going to play football. You are a troll There is zero percent chance they wrestle. They have stated it many times from their own mouths. I mean I guess it’s not fact unless they go back on their word?? They have a great chance to play in the nfl. They know this.

Many interviews. Look at instagram. All football no wrestling. Wrestle only during half the season. But you know better just because I’m wrong. Dream is nfl. 20 scholarship offers. One of top football players in Ohio and has a real chance at nfl but no they want to wrestle to lose the chance at millions of dolllars. They went to a shitty wrestling school and could have went to Ed’s? But I’m
Just giving an opinion?

Really scratching my head trying to figure out what is wrong with these kids, who are apparently great football players, wrestle in the winter.

That is basically every high school wrestling coaches dream.

From what I saw, they, and their dad, were all class the whole tournament, as was their dad. Watch the final at 215 and witness their reaction after a huge loss. I was impressed.

To be honest, I had the other brother's finals match just before this so I was decompressing and did not watch the match live.
The official who had the match was certainly aware of "something" and was making sure that he did not miss it. I did not talk to him about it (since I knew nothing of it) but I would hazard a guess that he had an arm coming across the throat or the carotid artery. Neither is legal and give the opponent a penalty point.

If you knew the way the younger brother lost his finals match the week before, you might be less impressed. It was a really stupid way to lose.
