Discussion Topic: The Mt Rushmore of Ohio Collegiate Competitors--Ohio Schools Only

Thought it would be fun to put together a list of significant wrestlers who competed collegiately in Ohio. This is not the same as Ohio preps who starred for other programs. Example: Dwight Gardner, Ohio U, belongs on this list even though he prepped in Fla. Dean Heil, St Eds, doesnt get mentioned. Then, once we have a comprehensive list, let's pick the best guy from each program. Or at least we'll argue about it.
Programs to think about: Ohio State, Ohio U, Cleveland State, Kent, Toledo, Bowling Green, Miami of, Findlay, Lake Erie, Notre Dame of South Euclid, John Carroll, Baldwin Wallace, Ohio Northern, Mt Union, Mt St Joseph, Heidelberg, Cuyahoga Community College, Lakeland Community College, Case Western, Ashland, Muskingum, Otterbein, Tiffin, Ohio Wesleyan, Wilmington, Defiance, Lourdes, Rio Grande...what programs am I missing? Capital? Remember, dropped programs still have guys who deserve recognition.

If you're gonna mention CSU, Toledo, Bowling Green, and Miami, you should mention Akron too.

There are certainly many around here with better historical knowledge and context. That being said, I'll kick us off with some nominations for the remaining D1 programs, noting that my bias is toward guys I've seen compete in person:
Ohio State
- Logan Stieber
- Kyle Snyder
- Lance Palmer
- J Jaggers
- Nathan Tomasello
- Myles Martin
- Kollin Moore
- Luke Pletcher
- Tommy Rowlands
- Mitch Clark
- Rex Holman
- Kevin Randleman
Stieber and Snyder are obvious locks for any Ohio Mount Rushmore, whether that's just for OSU or the state as a whole. Both are top 10 all time in the sport, IMO. Rowlands just a step down from them.

Percival was awesome. His beatdown of Mike Zadick was legendary. The Bobcats had some beasts in the late 90's early 2000's. Dwight Gardner was a National Champ and 2X AA. Shawn Enright and Eric Kimble were both 2X AA. All those guys were fun to watch.

Harry Houska was a Pan-American Games gold medalist in 1967. NCAA 191-pound champion in 1964 and runner-up at 177 pounds in 1963 at Ohio University where he won three Mid-American Conference championships compiled a career record of 76-3 and was named the University’s Athlete-of-the-Decade, 1960-70. Was Ohio high school champion at Parma High in 1954. As head wrestling coach at Ohio he guided team to seven consecutive conference championships.
Bruce Trammel was a two-time All-American wrestler. He was an NCAA runner-up at 158 pounds in 1970 and was third the following year. He captained his team to two MAC titles in 1970 and in 1971. He held seven season and career wrestling records in his time frame. He had 15 wins in a season, a dual career record of 36-0.

Here's what we've got so far:
Toledo: Greg Wojciechowski--NCAA champ, 3x finalist, 1980 Olympic team member in both freestyle and greco. Passed away very recently.
Notre Dame: Joey Davis--4x NCAA Champ
Ohio State: Kyle Snyder or Logan Stieber
Ohio U: Trammell, Houska or Percival in my opinion but I need more stats.
Cleveland State: Dan Carcelli AA (4th), Dave Zahoransky (2xAA), Tony Digiovanni (2xAA). Digiovanni coached Zahoransky at Solon high school.
John Carroll: Lots of great competitors but it comes down to my fellow Heights High alum, Jim Weir, a 3x NCAA D3 champ and a 2x D1 AA or Mark Hawald, a 2x D3 NCAA Champ and a 1x D1 AA. Weir would get the nod. There are a lot of NCAA champs and multiple AA's in this program's history.

Coleman’s a beast but he I think he was a one time AA. Mike Holcomb was a two timer. Does that trump that or are we simply looking for the best wrestler, who would be Coleman, in my opinion.

Out of curiosity, why the gap for HH between Parma (1954) and OU (1963)? Military service?
