Maddox Shaw gets majored by a Michigan backup. Starting to get worried about Shaw and Birden.
Stiles and Cannon I see both moving up next year. Ohio state is going to need a 149 and 174 via portal.

Yet I remember Shaw beating #1 Zepeda in the Dapper Dan Classic last year. Head scratcher? I hope Shumate has a good tournament, I'm not conceding 197 to Geog just yet.

I don't see Maddox Shaw in the bracket or listed in the OSU team listing. Am I missing something?
never mind. found him.

Yeah I can't figure Shaw out. Since that win nothing has stood out to me where it gave me confidence knowing he can be the guy next year at 149. Would have liked to see Desselle wrestle at this.

Yes Shaw beat Zepeda the guy who Bassett had a rivalry with. He also was back and forth with Robideua who is doing great at Oklahoma state. Currently Shaw would not even be a threat to make the NCAA tournament. Wonder if it’s a weight cut or injury? He needs to get a lot better if he ever wants to wrestle at Ohio state.
He has been majored three times and beat no one in the top 100. Something seems off

It’s a bit misleading to call Hilton a backup considering he is also a true freshman, so he’s a RS just like Shaw. Not saying it’s a good loss, but Hilton was a top 5 150lb recruit coming out of HS last year.
I wouldn’t completely write off Shaw but I do agree 149 and 174 are weights of need-as I believe is 141.
It feels like Birden is on the cusp. Maybe he can be one of those guys who steps in down the road as a one or two year starter and makes noise. Not everyone can be a four x AA.

Fair points, Birden is growing on me. I think he can be a formidable 174 next season. I know Hilton is a cusp blue chipper, it would have made me feel better if the match was closer. Not a MD. Hilton then lost his next match to Miller of VT who went 1-2 at NCAAs last season.

I have been watching Karson Brown at Powerade. I know he is already signed with Pitt. Seems like a good 141 prospect. Did tOSU ever try to make a run at him?

In hindsight it is now clear that Maddox Shaw is using the popular technique of losing the first match in order to purposely drop into the consolation bracket so as to maximize the number of matches he gets to wrestle. Very clever.

Shaw was in on a couple good leg attacks but got stalemated. Definitely needs to work on his TD finishes and hit the weight room. He did that in a few of his earlier matches, got to the leg but could not finish. But he is just a freshman and has time to hopefully learn/mature.
Birden and Shumate make the Midland Finals. Birden vs Barbosa(Rutgers) and Shumate vs Cotton(Rutgers)
Vinnie takes 7th place.
