Transfer portal will start heating up here shortly. Last year Ohio state lost two all Americans in the portal and picked up two guys who both went 1-2. I’m guessing Ohio state loses another groups of guys
1.mccrone with mills and munaretto coming in im not sure he sticks around. I doubt Bouzakis stays at 125 after how his season ended.
2.kilkeary he will be a national qualifier elsewhere.
3. Shumate
4.rotogotzke
Lineup prediction next season
125-mills
133-Davino
141-Bouzakis/portal
149-Shaw/portal- tom probably gives Shaw one more year
157-stiles
165-cannon
174-Birden
184-fishback
197-geog
285-Feldman
Definitely need another heavyweight as Feldman is only guy on roster. Feldman has been injured 3/4 college years. He was forced to wrestle every dual and needs to get more time off next season.

Maybe Rotogotzke to heavyweight? He has a good style for it but can he put on the size? We've had great success in the past will smaller/mobile heavyweights (Tommy, Bergman, Snyder) maybe he fits that mold. It would be interesting to see how Bouzakis would fit at 141. I've said this before, I think Mills ends up as a 133 or 141 after a redshirt. Also previously mentioned, but it would be awesome if they could flip Karston Brown from Pitt and have him as a 141/149.

125: Bouzakis--wrestle him minimum number of matches. Keep him as fresh as possible for end of season. Use Kilkeary or McCrone often (assuming one of them is around). Nic beat a ton of AA's this season. His difficulties at NCAA's aside, he was very good at the weight.
133: Davino. Forrest is huge and will probably move up.
141: Don't care--I don't need the Bucks to have a stud at every weight. I need them to get the best out of their guys when it counts
149: Can Shaw make the weight?
157: Stiles
165: Cannon. Love this guy. Wrestles with passion.
174: Birden showed promise
184: Fishbach. Needs to wrestle a lot less matches. Like Feldman, he got overused and it appears to have affected him mentally/physically.
197: Shumate/Geog.
285: Feldman needs a breather. I liked the Rogotzke idea if that's a possibility. Desperately need a stud recruit with some height. Portal has to be in play here.

Watching Geog is his matches it seemed like he was undersized as compared to his opponents at the tournament. Despite his skills he was manhandled a bit, especially when being ridden.
I certainly don't know his weight situation but I was wondering whether Geog might have more success at 184.

Mills will be 133/141 eventually but my hope is he can make 125 one year.
I doubt rotogotzke will want to be a backup heavy for a year. He’s not going to want to waste anymore eligibility.
I would love Karson brown also but his brother is already at Pitt. I’m not sure what the rule is on flipping at this point even if we could. He scored more points on Forrest then any college kid did this year.
If we can get a flip get us the Raney twins. No way they will both make the lineup. I think Jax goes to 141 and Vega 149. Robideau and Lockett 157 and 165. That lineup has three more years. One raney may be able to sneak in somewhere but not both.
Stanich and Crookham may become available also I heard.
Maybe Eddie neitenbach or Jaxon joy want to
Come back home.
Penn state may have some good kids leave also. Desmond, Sealey, Henckal

The Raneys would be ideal, because they are studs and could slide right in at 141 and 149. Stanich Crookham would be great although I'm not sure why either would flip as they seem to be doing really well where they are and have each other to train with. I think Stanich has 2 years and Crookham has 2 (possibly 3 if granted another medical redshirt).

With all this transfer portal talk I hope we’ve all opened up our wallets and made some contributions along the way! On the flip side I saw three former Bucks competing for other programs at the national tournament. Obviously Hepner finished 7th over Paddy, but both Andre Gonzales (CalPoly) and Brock Herman (Little Rock) competed and won matches. Good to see all doing well, especially a guy like Gonzales who never really was a consistent starter.

You forgot about Will betamcourt. He won a match also. He was 2-11 in 2024 so he made huge improvements.
Tom shows a lot of loyalty to his guys. I wouldn’t be too surprised if Ohio state grabs no one. Last year he got a 149 bc demilio left and a 184 bc no one could make the weight again. 141 I think probably goes to bouzakis. 149 they probably give Shaw a year. 165 cannon moves up and 174 Birden moves up. More people will be transferring out I feel.
As far as opening up the wallets getting portal guys is probably is cheaper than usual. Penn state and Oklahoma state probably aren’t looking for anyone as they are stacked. That makes it much easier. Iowa is the only other team that has significant more money than they buckeyes so if we are competing for the same weight it may be hard.

Saw a post on InterMat that said Bucks paid Stiles $75K to come to Ohio State. Not sure how accurate that is but thought it was interesting.
If Nic tries to go 25 again does McCrone leave or bulk up and go 141? Does Vinny leave with Dom coming in?
PSU will probably lose Davis and have the following guys for.
33-49
Blaze - RS available but doubt he wants to take it.
Ono - Not sure if last year counted as RS
Desmond - No RS available
SVN - No RS available
Perry - No RS available
Nasdeo - No RS available
Pierce - No RS available
57-74
Kasak - No RS available
Duke - RS available rumors he can't hold 57 and doubt he wants to take a RS
MM
Henckel - No RS available
Sealy No RS available
Top recruit James coming in
Okie state has some similar issues if Jax can't hold 33 and Vega 41.
Tagen Jamison - 141 R12 guy
Cael Hughes - 133 - Top recruit
JJ McComas 33/41 - Top recruit
Ronnie Ramirez 33/41 - Top recruit
Kody Routledge 57 - Top recruit
Plus they Raney brothers coming in for 33-49
Bucks need to find a backup 285. to give Nick some rest.
Portal opens April 1st for 30 days.

No way mccrone goes 141. He will be in the portal if bouzakis stays at 125. Bouzakis is strong enough to go 141.
If bouzakis stays we will have to get a 141 somewhwre unless bouzakis goes 133 and davino 141.
Oklahoma state fans think lineup will be 133 raney 141 jforrest 149 vega. Vega had a monster cut. Swiderski will probably be out. Good news for davino.
After national duals i remember feldman was extremely beat up. They wrestled Kent State a few days later. I was im shock that they wrestled him. I do not remember him sitting once all year and he probably had the hardest heavyweight schedule. Who else wrestled all top guys and Feldman and kueter multiple times. He can not take that year long punishment again. Iowa had no problem forfeiting heavy when dual was out of meet. Awful management of roster by staff.
I wish we saved the nil on someone not stiles. He is basically a 50/50 matchup with everyone in top 20 at 149. At 157 it is much much tougher. Guy could only maintain the weight half the year also when he was 149. I don't see him getting close to AA at 157.
Right now this roster could have up to 6 aa next year
Feldman and davino finalist
Cannon high placer
Fishback, geog are bubble
Bouzkis still i belive can finish anywhwre at 125 and only didnt all american bc he got pinned being up 11-5 in third. 141 clears out also so may even be able to do it there
Other than those 6 guys i would be willing to look in portal for the other four for this season. Penn state has a lot of all americans sitting the bench maybe transferring out.

I know I am not too smart, and I really don't care all that much, but how does one expect to beat PSU by getting guys who aren't good enough to be starters at PSU?

Oklahoma state and Penn state are unbeatable. You need to get their backups to help get a team trophy. Thier backups make us better.
Still can get a team trophy next year with this core. Iowa loses Peterson, Kennedy, caliendo, Ayala.
Nebraska loses lamer, Hardy, and Allred.
Virginia tech is up and coming and will add Bassett and Henson and I bet Miller may even reclassify.
Ohio state is in the 3-10 zone for the forseeable future. Must get some portal guys to compete for a trophy however. The four top teams all had 7 or more all Americans. The parity in wrestling teams are shrinking.

I think that was what the portal was meant to be, a place where second and third stringers could go to get an opportunity to wrestle. But with the NIL coming into existence the portal has become the "For Sale" to the highest bidder place. I think we are headed to a sport where you have to sign a "no transfer" clause before you are allowed to wrestle for a college team.

Iowa loses a ton this year. They've never been shy about grabbing guys out of the portal- I think they are super agressive and willing to spend a lot of NIL$ this year.
Could also see Nebraska going after all the top guys as they are right there.
Curious what VT does, a ton of incoming/returning talent but so much money tied up in Bassett and soon to be Miller.
