I think you meant Schlatter.

For those of you keeping track, the following wrestlers earned AA status at the brutal 149 lb weight class:

Dustin
Lance
Metcalf
Bubba
Caldwell
Burroughs
Churella
O'Connor

Sadly, Ryan Lang bowed out without placing. He had a heckuva career but a lot of injuries. I think they took their toll.

J & Mike had me squirming in my seat, but they both did what they had to to win. Good job. I agree with Ken that the TD Prendergast got seemed a bit premature given that J.D. was halfway out the back door when they gave it to him??? That Griffin is really strong; I don't know how he got out of that cradle; J held on as long as he could & got the back points. I think Coach Tressel started this Buckeye streak when he got Pryor to sign <smile> ; what a great tournament the Bucks are having. This had to be a great learning experience for Nikko & Reece to compete this week. Good Luck in the finals tomorrow. <thumbsup>

Jack - I agree with the weak takedown, but it does not compare to the takedown given to Perry at the end of his match.

Interesting that Mark McKnight (Penn State), who Ohio State's Nikko Triggas beat twice during the season, is wrestling in the consolation semifinals against Charlie Falck (Iowa) right now.

Also Mike Grey (Cornell), who Kent State's Dan Mitcheff beat and outplaced in consecutive weeks early in the season, is wrestling in the consolation semifinals.

Franklin Gomez (Michigan State) v. Mike Grey (Cornell) - should be Reece Humphrey... but he has 2 more years.

Quote from Leo Zimmer's post:

"Let's hear some opinions on the rest of the match ups... Jaggers v. Mendes... Pucillo v. Varner"

Mendes is a monster. He's huge at 141... and it's interesting that he's up from 125... yet another example of building his body to do well. (See Jordan Leen and Josh Zupancic wrestling at 157 when both were 130 pound seniors in high school)

I think Jaggers' speed and funk will give him a very hard time.

Then again, Mendes' power could do the same against Jaggers. It is an interesting contrast that should prove to be an awesome match.

J is going to bring home the gold!

As for Pucillo and Varner... both are very methodical wrestlers... I see this being a low scoring bout... one (or at most a couple) big move(s) will decide it. Last time Pucillo faced Varner it was in an absolutely loaded NHSCA Sr. National weight class that Varner was destroying. Pucillo beat Varner 6-0 in the final.

Deja vu happens tonight. War Pucillo and the Buckeyes.

McKnight beat Falck 7-5...

Can Penn State or Iowa State catch the Buckeyes?

Penn State has...
Jenkins in the final v. Metcalf
Davis in the final v. Michalak
McKnight going for 3rd v. Donahoe
Vallimont in the consolation semis v. Gillespie

Iowa State has...
Varner in the final v. Pucillo
and 6 guys in the consolations

Iowa State will probably finish second since they have so many wrestlers left to score. Bucks only have four chances left to get points. Let's hope Donahoe and Gillespie do their jobs.

It sure was sad to see Ryan Lang and C.P. Schlatter not get all-american. It's too bad Lang didn't feel like cutting weight his senior year. He was so fun to watch at 141 and I really think he could have won it all this year at that weight. If anyone saw that interview with him on Flowrestling it really looked like he lost the eye of the tiger. Oh well, let's root on Jaggers! I love is matchup with Mendes, it's such a contrast in styles.

Does anyone know where I can find how many team points are scored for wins in each round and what the bonus points are for majors, tech falls, and pins? I can't find it on the NCAA web set.

I've been abused by the Dernlans, abused by coach Simpson, and abused by Chertow... but I'm afraid of Metcalf. He's an animal <banghead>

Yeah, I think the refs should be testing Metcalf. He doesn't have blood, he's got ice water running through those veins. Damn scary wrestler.
