The Bucks signed a monster class in 2022 with three top five recruits in Mendez, Feldman and Bouzakis to go with a top 20-ish guy in Geog.
In the next three classes they signed a total of two blue-chippers: Welsh, Davino. Other guys like Birden, Rogotzke, and Kilkeary are good pick-ups but not elite.
The Bucks in 2026 need a class similar to the Mendez class. It’s early but the signs aren’t great. Bo isn’t coming and probably neither is Jax.
I’d break the bank for Waters and Mocco.

The problem is that Ohio has no elite recruits in state the next few classes also. In 2026 the highest ranked Ohio kid is number 71. I don’t think Ohio has ever had a class that bad. That may be the all time worse Ohio class.
Then in 2027 you have Burnett who is number 18 overall. Which is great but not truly elite. Then you have Jojo Walker number 24 overall. Ohio state will not be recruiting Jojo Walker. I can promise that. His character Tom ryan will not go after.
Not until 2028 there are a few Ohio kids that will make a college impact imo.

If the rumors are true about going to Iowa and getting 5M NIL deal I'm really curious to see how that effects the team.
Does Ayala ask for more money?
Does Ferrari ask for more money?

You need to have a market to ask for more money. Ayala might not even all American this year. 133 is very even in the top 10. No one is worth a lot of money there. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Ayala finished lower than bouzakis. Ayala could be a finalist but also fail to all American. If you are giving big money you want to make sure they are worth it. He got beat by Knox pretty handily earlier in the year. No one is paying Ayala more than what Iowa already is.
Then you have Ferrari. Nobody else even recruited Ferrari. Oklahoma state, Penn state, and Ohio state have 0.0 percent interest in him for fact. If no one is going to pay him more than he can’t demand more money. He would lose money by leaving Iowa I can promise that.
Bo Bassett every single school is going after hard. Every single school is bidding each other up. Bo Bassett is an absolute bonus point machine and to me looks like a 4x NCAA finalist that will bring along a ton of recruits. He reminds me of messenbrink. Huge gas tank and won’t be losing much at all in college. If there was a sure thing it’s Bo Bassett imo. I mean he has tech or pinned every kid in the nation and wrestles the toughest schedule in the nation while cutting no weight. Better prospect than Blaze imo.

Zoiks. The cupboard might be pretty bare in a couple years.

Virginia tech beating out Ohio state is bad. Looks like we need to stop wasting time on top 10 kids. We will only get the NIL leftovers. Need to develop more kids. Iowa, Penn state, and okie state will be cleaning up. Tom Ryan has been working on Bassett for years and didn’t even get truly considered. The staff now can’t even get the Raney twins it looks like now. 2025 was bad and 2026 might be just as bad. If I were the staff I would do whatever I could to try to land the twins.

Obviously have to go hard after the Raney twins, but that too seems like a long shot unless there's been a lot of progress behind the scenes.
There are a lot of talented recruits left in the Class of 2026 but frankly, you can't win championships without blue chippers. Given the current pipeline, TR & co. are likely going to have to get active in the transfer portal while they shift focus to the next class.
Keep an eye on incoming regulation after this season. If the salary, or "revenue share" cap, that goes into place includes NIL payments, the current wrestling pay-for-play model will dissolve overnight.

At this point I just hope it is not a Big 10 team he chooses. It will be bad enough having to watch Blaze beat up on the competition. Virginia Tech is a little bit of a surprise IMO. They do have better weather than the other three, for what that's worth.

Virginia Tech does a very good job of developing talent. Bucks have usually edged them in recruiting but perhaps those days are over? Or maybe Virginia Tech has a wealthy alum willing to put up serious NIL cash?

Being reported that Bassett is getting 625k a year plus a big signing bonus which will total around 5 million.
Willie said it was leaked that Virginia tech offered 2.5 million. Had no idea Virginia Tech has that sort of money.
Ohio state just has nowhere near the budget to get these recruits unless a very large donor comes In. Even if they did come up with money for him they would not be able to afford his circle around him.
I just am in shock still that Ohio state didn’t at least get a mention at the end. I mean Ohio state went further and beyond then any other school did except the money part. You would at least think he would have pretended to have them in the mix.

I don’t think VT beat TOSU at anything. They are getting as much out of Basset next year as the Buckeyes. Otherwise, it’s just a college kids opinion that no one will remember.
If they do indeed have 2.5 mill to spend on one guy, that is possibly a game changer as the Buckeyes don’t seem to have that much.
I wonder if we put a lot of money in getting — or maybe keeping — Mendez?

Go to 12 minutes in
If we lose Mendez I will cut off my leg lol. He is not going anywhere. He can’t be bought.
It also helps I believe he dates Blake Kaplan’s daughter.
If Mendez did test the market he could probably make 7 figures for one year however. He is making much less at Ohio state than he could.
