Could it be a scenario where he told Bucks what kind of offers he was getting and they said they can’t offer that so he eliminated them.
Rumors are He said he wasn’t making his decision till April, then PSU embarrassed Iowa and they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse so the other 3 schools in his final 4 meant nothing.
Not saying Iowa is a bad choice but I bet he has an amazing individual career but doesn’t win multiple team titles.

It is being said that Iowa told him end the recruiting process now and this is is what will pay you. That is why it went from 7-4-1 in 48 hours. Iowa rushed the decesion along.
Spencer Lee is also his idol and all time favorite wrestler which was another factor I’m sure.
He claimed he wanted a place with the best partners which Iowa won’t have any middle weights for him currently. Penn state and okie state have much better partners for him. They are loaded for future around his weight.
He said his faith was a big factor also which I don’t see Tom Brands, Ferrari, and Desanto having too many bible studies together lol.
The rtc is basically Spencer Lee alone.
It looks like it was a straight financial decesion and not too much else came into play.

Agree and not sure why so many people are upset with TR on this one.
He didn’t pick Cael and PSU or Taylor and Okie State either.
Bucks need to go after Waters from Faith Christian and work on opening that pipeline. They have 2 light weight brothers who are top ranked.

Was thinking it would be par for the course for Jax to go to PSU and prove to be a better prospect and eventual wrestler.
Seems like everything Cael does works, everything Tom Brands does... well. Not as much.

Look at Iowas team last year. Brands has not developed wrestlers. Other than Ayala everyone is transfer portal that has had any NCAA success. Woods, caliendo, Buchanan, Parco, teemer, frankek. His guys have sucked and he just over recruits them in the portal with $$$. The donors have literally saved his job.
Ohio state needs a big class in 2026. They have literally got like three guys in the last two classes combined. Waters is number 18 overall so is very obtainable and won’t cost much. The Bachmann brothers will be very hard to get out of Penn state however. I don’t think the raney brothers are in play but If they are still open Ohio state needs to have a full court press. They are just as good as Jax Forrest and could possibly have more upside in my opinion. Mocco could also be in play now that Ross signed to okie state. Munaretto is from Davinos high school so may also be in play. So lots of pieces could still fall.
Do not go after Forrest too hard he is not coming. It’s going to be okie state or Iowa I can almost assure you. Do not go after Melvin miller he’s following Bo.
As for not getting Bassett it was not Tom’s fault. He did all he could possibly do other than win the lottery. No other school did more for him. It was only money strictly. It was not the Iowa education, it was not the Iowa development, the workout partners, the rtc, his faith, being close to home. All the stuff he claimed were false in his decesion.

Yeah, I thought the part about his faith was a big plus for Ryan, but apparently not. The OSU negative, IMO, was the lack of a top ORTC. You know Bo has to be thinking Olympics down the road, and Ohio's RTC is almost non existent.

Tom Brands is a devout Christian. He’s not as vocal about his faith as Tom Ryan but he’s mentioned it in a number of interviews.
I for one think Bassett to Iowa is a good fit. He wrestles the so-called Iowa style (is that still a thing?) and will enjoy the attention of competing at Carver. Time will tell but I think it’s a solid match. But it had to be hard to turn down a chance to be coached by Cael or Cael’s protege, David Taylor.
Flo really needs to update its 2026 Big Board. Waters is way too low at 18. I’d take him over maybe anyone except for Bassett or Forrest. He’s exceptional.
The Raney brothers are a bit of an enigma. Best I can tell they don’t do social media and haven’t given many interviews. Once Forrest is off the board, they’ll be the biggest prizes available. Whichever programs gets one gets both. That’s huge.
Mocco won’t be going to Oklahoma State after the Cowboys landed Ross at 285. That removes one of his dad’s college programs. The second program just gave Bassett a ton of money and might not have much left.
Hopefully this opens the door for the Bucks to swoop in and land him.

Go to 12 minutes in
If we lose Mendez I will cut off my leg lol. He is not going anywhere. He can’t be bought.
It also helps I believe he dates Blake Kaplan’s daughter.
If Mendez did test the market he could probably make 7 figures for one year however. He is making much less at Ohio state than he could."

Thanks. That’s a kid who gets it. The stuff around 6:30 is great, also.

I watched Adam waters last year at Ironman. He wrestled a kid I know personally Eddie Neitenbach, and gave him his only loss of the season, and Eddie went on to get third. Eddie has went on the be nationally ranked as a true freshman at Wyoming so that alone shows that Waters is very good.
Water’s absolutely destroyed the field this year at Ironman beating Miller an Iowa commit by tech fall and pinning number 4 Foard in the finals.
I think Adam Waters is absolutely in play. He is not going to Penn state as they have Barr, Henckal, Cunningham, mirasola and Ryder lol. No way he can squeeze in there. He’s not going to Iowa as they landed ludington, and already have Ferrari and Arnold. This class needs to be around 4-5 kids and this would be a good start.
Edit it looks like his 7 schools are Ohio state, Michigan, Virginia Tech, unc, Missouri, Arizona state, and Oklahoma state.

Landing Jax Forrest would sure improve our mood. I'm offering a Wagyu Brisket NIL enticement--same as Blaze. Someone make sure he knows.

Wagyu Brisket didn't cut it for Blaze.
Can you make it a double?
Please?

Maybe the staff had to make a decision on either Bassett or Forrest and had to choose one for monetary reasons because they could not offer both that kind of money. Tom Ryan does love to interview, so we may know if something did happen like that eventually. The whole time everyone has said Oklahoma state all along, so that’s what I’m expecting. Doesn’t look like it’s going to be Iowa as they may have spent too much money for the time being.
If Ohio state gets desperate they can always go to Cal Bakersfield and get a national champion for very very little cost and fill a hole. He has kept his nose clean lately and I’m sure will be in the portal this offseason. Facundo would be a good addition at 157/165 also. If we can’t land recruits need to be able to fill in areas of need in the portal going forward.
