Ahh, a guy in the room when it happened.
Tom, in the interview said he was given three choices. Only thing Welsh has posted was that Ohio State was home -- which obviously isn't true so yeah, he seems trustworthy.

I don’t understand fans. Why does anyone have to be the villain? It’s a college kid who decided to switch universities. He likely did so because he thought the new destination would be better for him. How or why he thinks it would be better for him is completely up to him.
People change their minds. They switch majors and careers paths. They switch partners and even leave marriages…And yes, sometimes they switch schools. It doesn’t make him “untrustworthy” (or delusional or whatever else you called him in the other thread) anymore than him leaving makes Coach Ryan a bad coach.
Just my opinion, but I’m wrong a lot.

Michael -- if you say you are staying then leave 3 months later, that doesn't make you trustworthy. If you took 2nd in the nation as a true freshman but think you won't develop there, that is delusional thinking. This decision doesn't make him a villain. But threatening to leave to Ok St, then tweeting that Ohio St in home, then leaving 3 months later isn't a good look, IMHO. Doesn't mean I'm right either.
He obviously is allowed to do these things -- but that doesn't mean as fans have to like it either.
You aren't a fan (not a dig, just stated reality) so you don't understand fan thinking -- and every university WANTS people to be fanatics. That's how they pay the bills.

Actually, yes. I posted the same when all this went down and confirmed Rocco had one foot out the door. And what was Tom supposed to say? I didn’t allow my true freshman finalist a wrestle off??
There are issues with how this team is managed. So just continue to be confused by what occurs with this team. I said all this before, it jdoesn’t matter if anyone believes it.

Why would or should anyone believe what you say?

In a little bit of good news it doesn’t seem like Geog is in the portal like previously said.

Iowa spent over a million dollars yesterday grabbing Peterson, Bailey and Williams to improve the worst three weight classes. Brands has the easiest job in America.

And they still can't touch PSU or finish top 3.

Little Rock does fantastic by Bailey. They take Williams in after his troubles in Stillwater. They bolt for Iowa.
Good for them. Bad for Little Rock. Worse (IMHO) for college sports.

No one is beating Penn state for the next 3 years at least. However Iowa will be second next year. It will be a race for third for everyone else
Iowa lineup
125 Peterson
133 Ayala
141 Bailey
149 Williams
157 Estrada
165 caliendo
174 Kennedy/ Arnold
184 Ferrari
197 Ferrari
285 Kueter.
That lineup can have up to five finalists and several other all Americans. Won’t beat Penn state but will be a clear second place by a mile.

I really like the perspective Brady provides. Most are blaming Coach Ryan and it appears Brady is looking at it from the other perspective.
Not trying to play the blame game here. Is it possible that there is no one to blame (other than the current system)?
- Coaching staff’s perspective: We have all discussed the financial challenges we have with NIL/transfer. If the current coaching staff has these challenges, how will that change with a new coaching staff?
* who knows if Coach Ryan forced Rocco to RS or was 100% transparent about the 3 options he provided Rocco? Not sure we will ever know how it exactly went down.
* Many would say Coach Ryan screwed up this situation. How do any of us really know? I guess that is what these forums are for us to speculate and provide our opinions.
- Rocco’s perspective: We all know he tested the waters and decided to stay at tOSU. He went as far as posting on social media that Columbus/Buckeyes is home for him (I’m paraphrasing). He is now testing the waters again (may be a done deal, but nothing has came out officially other than Willie and Mino’s reports).
* If coaches (at any level and any sport) are allowed to go to other universities for more money, a better fit, family reasons, etc then why can’t the athlete? The answer is they now can.
* To put it another way if all of us were offered an opportunity to go to another job most of us would consider. So why blame Rocco for something most of us would do or at least consider?
* Many would say because he made a commitment after testing the waters and that is true. BUT why can’t a 20 year old change his mind in this situation. If or when we lose Rocco, it will be bad for Ohio State wrestling, but don’t kids change majors and change their mind often? Especially someone in their early 20s?
We can all go on in point the finger at Coach Ryan about his dumb decisions to throw bricks, say dumb things to the concussed Rutgers wrestler, or even bully the referee staff during challenges. My personal opinion is that coach can certainly improve in these areas because he’s not doing himself any favors, but is it reason to point the finger at him because Rocco changed his mind?
I would love to hear your thoughts.

Tom Ryan is on record as saying what happened (Flo Interview from Dec 19). This will be the other side.
Chittum is a meh, for me.
McNeil, as a graduate, hits different.

I mean cannon already beat chittum unless Cannon is going 165 which he may. McNeil is a difference maker for sure
Iowa is literally what is wrong with the transfer portal. The Iowa collectives just straight up try to get any kid that is best available even when not in the portal. West Virginias coach is going nuts right now bc they are calling Ty Waters and his dad trying to make deals with them when they weren’t looking to leave. They did the same to Parco and Teemer last year. They definitely need to make restrictions and rules on this sometime soon. It’s getting to be too much.
