Hank: I agree with everything you wrote except your comment about Gross and Sponseller. I think Gross can hang and that it isn't so clear cut -- though I am a big Sponseller fan.
I'm going. I'll be the one with the 10 year old daughter with the book.

I've been known to be bullish on Sponseller <smiling>
You're right. Gross is a 2x MAC finalist, 2x national qualifier and a perennial top 20 competitor.
I think this match will provide an indicator as to where Sponseller stands.

This is truly Sponseller's first big test on the DI landscape and how he holds up against the older competiton. I think Sponseller wins in a close one.

Is the MAC center big? theres no chance tickets will be sold out? I'm planning on getting there around 615-630. I'm hoping theres a nice size crowd...just not to big of one before i get there. haha

I doubt Flo will be there. He was at Kent right after the Eds Super 8 and did a nice job with those interviews. Flo is the best thing to happen to the sport from this fans perspective in years.

I think they will draw a nice size crowd including many highschool teams if not competing. The MAC wont sell out though. You will get tickets just fine

just checked and it holds 6300 people. I would have to imagine anything over a thousand would be a record crowd for the Golden Flashes

A huge win for Sponseller and the Buckeyes there at 165.

174: Alex Picazo (Ohio State) dec. Chris Estep (Kent State) 10-5
184: Mike Pucillo (Ohio State) dec. Eric Chine (Kent State) 8-2
197: John Weakley (Ohio State) dec. Mike Blackwell (Kent State) 13-9
285: J.D. Bergman (Ohio State) md. Jermail Porter (Kent State) 17-6
Ohio State wins handily getting revenge from the last two years. Great win for Ohio State especially for Sponseller at 165. Bergman continues his onslaught on the heavyweight competition and looks like he is on a collision course with Fox.

Sponseller passed this test with flying colors. Beat an NCAA qualifier. That score (8-5) is misleading. Colt pressed the action the whole match. I still didn't see that 1st KSU TD? I thought Colt had countered that leg attack & no clear control was gotten, then he grabbed Gross' ankle & took him down to the mat. But it was ruled a 2-2 move??? <crazy> After that it was all Sponseller. Even at the end when Gross needed a TD, Colt kept attacking & thwarted any TD. I thought it should have been 8-3 at the end. But still it was another stepping stone for Colt. 133 looked like a match Enright might have been better suited for, but Mitcheff is tough none the less, as was Lashaway at 141. Jaggers wrestled smart, got the lead then didn't try anything too fancy or risky.

That was the first time I got to see the 125 pounder from Kent, and he was very tough. With him and Triggas being freshman, I would say that Kent got a steal! Nice work both teams.

Congrats to the young Bucks. I personally am suprised that Reece lost his match. I am suprised that Pucillo didn't have a major. Not suprised by the rest or the fact that talent and coaching have prevailed.
But caution to the Bucks. This means nothing. As I stated last season, this is all practice for the second season. Dual wins look good on the record but do nothing for the second season... the big show...the NCAA's.
Good luck to Kent for the rest of the season and in the MAC.
The Bucks need and will improve from this stage. Look out for the Big Tens!
