Discussion Topic: Comparing Kent State and Ohio State Recruiting

yes Jordan Oliver, AWN # 1 at 130, has the look of a future NCAA champ---- many say he is the best ever out of Easton PA program, thats saying alot, includes Bobby Weaver, Jammar Billman, Bryan Snyder.
any one else notice the state of
Oklahoma with only 5 measly NCAA quals in Div I ??
Jack Spates & John Smith got to be on the road alot to maintain their programs at such a high level, although U of Oklahoma has slipped a bit...... State of Minnesota only 8 NCAA Div I quals.
by contrast Ohio 2nd only to PA with a resounding 31 NCAA
homegrown
quals, same # as last year as i recall. Last year Ohio had 12 AAs in Div I, edged PA who had 11, NY 7, NJ 5.
There was never an excuse for Ohio St and Ohio Div I colleges not having strong wrestling programs, unless the school itself just didnt give support to the coach. ------There was Never an excuse for cuting Div I wrestling programs in Ohio colleges either.

Same could be said for PSU and why they haven't been 'Iowa-like' on the national level. It just appears to come down to coaching, and specifically, recruiting. Ryan really appears to be the real deal - we could be looking ahead to a real Golden Age for OSU wrestling, similar to what we are experiencing in football!
Go Bucks!

JP: Penn State has no excuse not to be better than Ohio State right now if you look at the talent in their room. I'm shocked we beat them twice and may well finish ahead of them at Nationals. They have great depth in their room but their starters don't seem to be reaching the level one might expect.
Buckeye Golden Age? Starts with recruiting. State of Ohio has some incredible talent in the high school ranks at this time. David Taylor and Collin Palmer will be seniors next year....David Taylor certainly seems to be on the level of Dustin Schlatter while Colin reminds me of....Lance.
If the Bucks staff can start signing up the top talent in Ohio with regularity, the Bucks will take a huge step towards realizing their potential.

Quote from Christopher Henderson's post:

"I wonder if Danny Michaels is going to CSU. He had an impressive season wrestling up a weight and making the finals of a loaded 171 weight class. He would fit in perfectly at 174 for the Vikings after a redshirt season.
CSU's future looks pretty decent actually. Keller at 125 will be sweet. Armstrong returns next season from his Olympic redshirt. Nicholson should be solid at 141 or 149. Michaels and Effner should have even better seasons next year. J.T. Miller might be the most improved college wrestler in Ohio. Hahn will have one more go at the national tournament and Rashard Goff will be a legit AA contender. Look for good things from CSU next season."

I sat beside the CSU coaches at the state tournament and had a chance to talk a little. I'm always trying to pick people's brains to see if I can learn anything.
Anyways, Danny Michaels will be headed to CSU. It seems as if CSU may have some sort of a Clyde pipeline going right now. There will be two sets of brothers (the Schwartz and Michaels brothers) wrestling there next season. I know this may be relatively unknown, but they are very excited about where Eric Schwartz could be in a couple of years. He is a very athletic heavyweight and has a lot of upside after having transferred from Ohio State, where he walked onto the football team. I actually remember hearing that when he was in high school, he could wrestle with and sometimes beat one of Michigan's current heavyweights from Clyde (Matt Guhn).
Also, it was hinted on that Coach Effner will be hanging it up very soon. Who would be in line to replace him at CSU?
Another thing to throw out there...
Is CSU in position to land any one of the Monroeville boys in a few years? They already have a wrestler from Monroeville on their team and they seem to recruit that part of the state relatively well. I know it would be a longshot, but it'd be nice to keep all four of them in state, regardless of where they go.
