"I’m curious why Decatur rode for 5 minutes. That seemed intended. I would’ve expected him to push for the tech a little harder. "

Yes, that seemed odd.

"Hank,
I don’t think the decision Kiner over Cleary would’ve changed the outcome of the dual. There were four five things that cost them that dual Kiner being the least of it IMO. Cleary would’ve kept that match closer, and I would agree with you that he probably wouldn’t have been out muscled, but I’ve seen little to think that Cleary would’ve pulled out the win against an opponent who I think is better than his record. Romero, Traub, Heinsleman, and Decatur all lost matches that we had better shots to win. I think they wanted to put Quinn in against guys that wouldn’t break him in half to get a comparison. Ryan said prior to the weekend stretch that Cleary was still the guy, so I’m assuming we probably don’t see Kiner any further this season."

Agreed on the strategy. Idea was to evaluate Kinner vs. Jahi Jones, but Maryland wrestled their backup. Doubt Kinner makes the trip to Nebraska otherwise.
Disagree on the last bit though. There's still a chance Kinner gets the nod at the end of the season. Same can be said for Malik, although I think the staff feels pretty good about Koontz if he can manage the weight.

I understand why Jared and others don't think using Kinner instead of Cleary made the difference in the Nebraska dual. There are a number of other bouts where the outcome could have been reversed....agree.
But I still thought it was the wrong decision if winning the dual was the most important consideration.
Sometimes, however, dual meet results may be secondary to getting a good look at a prospect.
I do like Kinner a lot and think he has the frame to become a 157 for next season. A few people have projected him dropping back down to 141 but I don't think that's sensible. He doesn't look tiny at 157. He just needs to add muscle.
