Anyone have a full list of wrestle offs? Curious who is wrestling off at 133 and 157.

Great question! Without the coaches clinic - and wrestle-offs - we’re kind of in the dark.

The good news is I doubt we’ll FF those weights.

I saw some impressive videos of Wilcox (157) and am looking forward to seeing him wrestle. Unfortunately, in the past, we got to see these freshman in some of the opens, but not this year.

Wrestle offs will be this Saturday January 9th.

There will be a live stream on Facebook (I'd imagine the wrestling homepage) starting at 11am with finals at 12:30.

Quote from Jared Ball's post:

"Anyone know if the wrestle off will be streamed? I’m definitely curious to see what D’Emilio looks like, and how Enchemendia’s mat game is coming along. I think the most telling thing about this wrestle off list is who’s not listed. Smith is going back up to 174. I thought for sure he would stay down at 165 to wrestle off Karchla, apparently not. I’m most interested to see Hoffman vs Singletary. I very much want to see Hoffman’s lofty recruiting profile come to fruition, but likewise you have to be pulling for a guy like Chase after the year he had last season. Will the drop in weight class have a negative impact on Singletary’s energy levels? Although I love GtG like everyone else I think Orndorf is a more complete wrestler. It’s time to finally get excited about NCAA wrestling again!!"

I agree with most I think in that it will go Ech, Romero, Singletary, Orndorf but I think several of these will be good matches. Very interested to see Singletary vs. Hoffman. Smith wrestling off at 174 seems to be a smart play. If he doesn't beat Romero maybe he moves up and challenges Rocky. I think Karchla is probably the best of the 4 so this probably give Smith the best shot at making the lineup.

With regard to other weights, I looked at the roster again yesterday, Quinn Kinner is not listed.

Buckeyes Twitter released the matchup slate for tomorrow.

A few things stand out....

No Ethan Smith- Could be injured

No Kinner- This worries me, because I don't even see him listed on the Buckeyes roster. I figured coming into the season he would be the favorite at 157. Hoping to hear news on both soon.

An OSU insider said Kinner may not even be on the team this year. I have heard nothing about this.

Impressive mat wrestling by Wilcox. His match with veteran Cleary should give us a better indication of his possible starting spot. Like Bergman said it doesn't look like Willcox is lacking any time in the weight room. The great thing this year is these freshman can possibly wrestle 5 years of varsity due to Covid rules.
D'Emelio is looking good, so his match with Echemendia could be interesting.

Cheap seat assessment (wrestle offs are some of the worst matches to try and guess how much a guy has improved)
125- how many times are you gonna get hit with the same move man!! Malik looked solid and beefier. Not sure if I could really tell via Facebook live, but Bergman made a comment or two about his walk around weight being closer to the mid to low 130s. I guess we’ll see if that pays off.
133- Decatur with lots of riding time and against an outclassed opponent. He looked like he had solid energy levels for the full seven minutes, but again hard to tell until we see him in action against other big ten guys.
141- Great depth. As I saw the inside trip guys mention...Stickley was an iron man champ and he’s sitting third. Enchemendia clearly has the goods on his feet but is still a work in progress in areas related to mat wrestling. He is only going to get better exponentially. D’Emilio was impressive all the way around. Great leg attacks, solid positionally, and damn tough on top. These two will only make each other a ton better. Very excited about this weight.
149- Sasso did what you would expect. I really hope we see a jump in his offensive output this year. He seems very counter based against higher level competition, but that’s few and far between for the preseason number one.
157- Kiner’s not at school, and Wilcox is a true frosh. I liked what I saw...strong, great motor, and relatively solid position. He’s going to make some great jumps this season. Cleary did exactly what you would expect a journeyman fifth year to do...win. Solid workmanlike W. He’s probably not going to beat the top half of the big ten, but he’s not going to cost you a dual either.
165-TBD
174- Romero picked up right where he left off. Fritz is a solid dude as a fifth year. Kaleb will be right in the mix all season.
184- I didn’t think it was possible but Rocky looked even bigger! He’s a full two years removed from his injury with a competitive season under his belt. Excited for his season.
197- This was about what I expected. I was a little shocked to see how skinny Singletary looked. Gavin seemed to be the aggressor in the match and went and got the takedown when it mattered. Regardless of who wrestles throughout the season there is going to be a sizable drop off in point production. I think both guys will be competitive at this typically baron weight. Not sure if either guy is top ten material from what we saw. Both are limited offensively, but solid mat wrestlers and I’m the counter/scramble part of wrestling.
285- Orndorf out sumo’d GtG. Orndorf is an experienced big man that knows how to win in tight bouts. I was hopeful to at least see a takedown one way or another, but alas...the riding time point was all we got. Not sure that either guy touches a leg against Gable, Kirk, or Mason. After that tier I give either guy less than a 50% chance against Hilger and Cassiopi. Our wheel house will probably be in the third tier at 285.

The Bucks should be very solid in duals. Based on what I saw last night with UoM, Nebraska, Rutgers, and Minnesota I like our chances at at top 4 finish dual wise.

I wonder if, for the tri meets, coach will take two guys at 141, 197 and 285? and let each kid wrestle a match in lieu of an open tournament.

Someone on Iowa boards posted a rumor Carson tore his ACL and that is why he
didn’t wrestle off. Anyone have any inside information if this is true or just a rumor?
