"I can’t remember specific details, but it seems USA wrestling has granted odd wrestle offs in situations like this in the past. Like when Nick Marable supposedly slipped off a treadmill thus couldn’t make weight one year and then was granted a wrestle off at a later date against james green. Or what were the circumstances that year that Coleman Scott, Reece and Bunch had that special wrestle off after the trials? Was that 2012?"

I believe all those were for “injuries”.

I saw this tweet a while back in reference to NCAA Wild Cards:
- You don't place at Sectionals, you don't go to Districts.
- You don't place at Districts, you don't go to State.
- Why do we grant Wild Cards to kids who don't place in the right spot at their conference tournament?
I think all the same in this scenario, just replace 'don't place' with 'don't show up at weigh-ins.'
The spot should be Snyder's.

Digging in a bit further on the J'Den Cox saga....
Cox's coach, Kevin Jackson, informed Cox he had to make wt between 8-830am. In reality, he had to make weight by 8am.
He was a few tenths over at 8am. He quickly shed the weight and made weight.
USA wrestling decided not to accept the late weigh in result.
Kevin Jackson, however, is an employee of USA Wrestling. He appears to be contending that someone within the organization gave him the wrong info. If that's the case, there's a good chance Cox will win his appeal.

If he is an employee, how in the world is it possible that he doesn't know the time for the weigh-in? Everyone else seemed to know the correct time.
If someone in the organization gave him wrong info, he better be able to say who that someone is. Otherwise it is not even close to believable.
This brings up the question, if he "wins" the appeal, what happens then? IMO, there is no earthly reason why the people who followed the rules and earned their spot on the team should be expected to roll over and wrestle him for that spot.

Jim: Excellent points.
Let's just say for the sake of argument that KJ simply goofed. The question becomes should J'Den have to miss the Olympics as a result. (the opportunity to make the team is what I mean)

I’m not giving a pass to a professional athlete who trains all year for this shot.
You can argue high schoolers are just kids or even some fresh in college are new and inexperienced but this is Cox’s “job.”

sad but sure he is out. .....in golf if u miss your T-time at the Masters ur out. If u are in an olympic track event if u miss your race start time your out. Etc.
but we see strange rulings sometimes in wrestling, witness Josh Heil "no clock dead time" match at NCAA. ..and then there was the Ian Miller case .

Say he appeals and wins, does J'Den then wrestle a semifinal against challenge tournament winner Kollin Moore? And if so, what does Moore stand to gain by training for and wrestling that match? He already lost his Olympic shot in the loss to Snyder.
The whole thing is ridiculous. Kevin Jackson was sloppy, plain and simple. If we're to take him at his word, then we also must assume he didn't confirm the weigh-in time given to him by the USA wrestling employee against the official schedule of events. Again, ridiculous and sloppy.
J'Den deserved better. But the call on the mat stands. Snyder goes to Tokyo.

There is nothing in it for Kollin to train to wrestle a semifinal with J'Den, in terms of becoming the Olympic qualifier. Kollin would wrestle the match for the sake of wrestling the match, because he would want the challenge. That is all that is in it for him.
Kyven Gadson is the guy that loses world team training funding for placing 3rd, if J'Den is inserted back into the mix for the spot at 97kg. Talk about not fair. Kyven made weight and wrestled back to capture 3rd to be a member of the world team.
J'Den weighed in originally at 8:04am when weigh-ins closed at 8am. He was overweight then. So, that is just him recording a weight. He weighed himself again 15 minutes later and made weight, but weigh-ins closed at 8am. By the rules of the tournament, no official should have even weighed or recorded his weight.
I love J'Den Cox. I would have loved to see he and Kyle tangle because I am not clear on where they are in reference to one another as wrestlers right now. J'Den has been amazing, but Kyle seems to have settled back into a routine that is working for him and improving his game. I actually believe Kyle is back on track and would have won, though I do think it very well may have went to 3 matches.
It simply does not matter, unless there is some way a true conspiracy can be validated. I'm not even sure there has been an official accusation to that effect? I have not even read or heard any response from Kevin Jackson on advising J'Den of the weigh-in time. Anyway, God help us if that kind of bs is alive and well within the ranks of USA Wrestling.
Everyone else was having breakfast when J'Den tried to weigh in 4 minutes after weigh-ins were officially closed. Everyone else got the memo. A world champ knows the routine and where to look to make sure he is where he needs to be at what time.

So i'm curious as to when wrestlers typically show up for weigh ins. I would think it unusual for someone to show up right before time expires. I say that because i wonder if anyone noticed he hadn't showed up yet and tried contacting them. i'm not taking blame away from Cox and Jackson, it entirely lays with them, just curious.

Pat Mineo is reporting more and more that makes it appear that the "misinformation" story is just that - a story.
He reported the following: "USA Wrestling's new bar code system (scanned upon weigh ins) revealed Cox weighed in at 7:24AM and was over, at 8:00AM and was over.
He was told by someone, possibly his coach, (not USA wrestling) that he could keep trying, so he came back at 8:13AM and made it. Upon review USAW ruled it too late and Cox and team went with the "we had the wrong time" excuse which is now being shown to be a big stretch."

Completely agree. I like Cox, but as you stated, this is his JOB. The best analogy I could think of was if I had to give a presentation to our Chief Technology Officer, and I either slept in or forgot to save my PowerPoint file.
