Koll would recruit nationally and with a big arsenal. No foot of snow. Maybe recruits no one from California? but if fully funded he would be The big dog on the West coast.
after all in latest rankings i saw Stanford ranked #3 university in the World behind only Harvard & MIT. Great climate, fabulous campus. Influential local alumni.
yes its a small pool of potential recruits (but true for Cornell too)... if u were a kid who has the academics and wrestling talent who wouldnt seriously consider Stanford with a name coach like Koll. Late 50s not old.... ..
and Stanford does give athletic schols, unlike the Ivies..and maybe he is just sending message to Cornell admin, i am highly Valued? or maybe its no bluff. after all Ivies cancelled season, maybe that pissed him off?
maybe he sees Stanford in a better local, only AZ st out there, not fighting the east coast big dogs for recruits. Something different to sell. re rumor Nolf might join him, for sure he would have his pick....i say Jim Kessen is on to something, its a Live rumor.

Stanford has pledges of 12 milyin (sp) and my guess is the administration figures why not win if they're going to keep wrestling. Stanford has always had some talent. Now they have the elements in place to become a top ten program and the anchor for wrestling out west.

It will be interesting to see if the Stanford wrestlers in the portal decide to stay with the hire of Kohl, a high profile and proven successful coach. And do any of the high profile kids on the Cornel roster follow him to the west coast?

Especially Yianni and Arujau. Wonder if Max Dean knew something back in April when he went into the transfer portal?

I still find this move incredibly intriguing. I’ve seen all the speculations posted just like any of you, but this is a very curious move for a guy that is on the back nine of his career. There are tons of reasons as to why Stanford would be an attractive job, but more than Cornell? Is it possible that this is some altruistic move on Koll’s part to save D1 wrestling out west? Let’s face it, no one is challenging Zeke for recruits or competitively west of Nebraska. That’s a lot of real estate to hold sway over. Could Koll envision himself as wrestling’s best hope for preservation at Stanford? He’s not a viable long term solution for more than a decade, but he could win now and set the table for the next guy.

Jared: How old is Koll? Same age as Dresser when he made his move? In that vicinity?
My guess is some powerhouse Stanford alums approached him and he became intrigued. Add in some vitriol perhaps at how the Ivies froze athletics during Covid and why not give it a shot?
Again, I'm speculating. Like you, I think he also recognizes that he can be an asset to wrestling by coaching out west.

Mike Grey was named as Cornell's next head coach, so I wouldn't be surprised if many or most of their guys stay put.

"altruistic move" by Koll? no i don't think so. Stanford a (inter)national player, i am sure generous concessions were made by Stanford to Koll, incl salary. Hes only 54 or 55, where better to retire? Scrap the snowblower.
in announcing Grey new HC so soon it shows Cornell knew a long time ago, weeks at least, that Koll was leaving. ....since Stanford decided to swallow their pride and reverse the stupid decision to eliminate 11 sports they then decided why not go all the way and be elite like they are in sooooo many other sports ? And they will be.
