Looked all over InterMat before asking you (I'm a premium service subscriber), and I couldn't locate it.
Regardless, I thought the PAC-10 had around 30 qualifiers, and they had 5 AAs.
The big two conferences will always reign supreme. When considering the other conferences, the MAC ranks up there. That was my point.

Bob, the MAC's fourth AA was Gritter. I can't imagine the commitee that allocates qualifiers is inclined to throw more at the MAC based on the performance of one team. CMU had all four or the MAC's AA's.
I have said before, though, that out of the group Kent has in Bedelyon, Mitcheff, and Kilgore, at least one will AA before they are done. I think Kilgore will, possibly multiple time.

I think that Kilgore stands the best shot of being an AA. He had wins this year over NCAA qualifier Honeycutt which speaks volumes of his ability. I think that he will be the one that breaks the streak.

I agree - I actually see Kilgore as a possible national finalist before his time is done.
To my continued support of the MAC, I believe the NCAA traditionally looked at participants who made it to the round of twelve to determine qualifiers.
This year the MAC had 9/19 make it to the round of twelve, with 5 people losing in their match to AA. (Castillo, Carter, Burke, Stewart, Porter)
I feel like 9/19 making it to that round is pretty solid.
I digress, however, because I do agree that they need more AA's to warrant more qualifies. I still think the MAC has passed most of the other conferences, and having CMU certainly doesn't hurt.

here's the numbers for this year Guys,

Yes Ethan u r right, the MAC looks more or less as good or better as any except for the Big 12 (aka Big 5) and Big Ten-- except for the fact the MAC has been for the last decade or more
a one team conference
, with the exception of OhioU in 1998 with two NCAA finalists & the Jake Percival era:
League Qualifiers--- AAs
Big Ten 72--- 32
EIWA 47--- 11
Pac Ten 38--- 4
Big Twelve 38--- 19
EWL 32--- 3
CAA 24--- 3
West Regional 20--- 1
MAC 19--- 4
Southern 15--- 1
ACC 14--- 2
East Regional 11--- 0
Pat C,
as i've said, the Qual awarding system changes next season,
past performance cannot be used anymore.
Will put more emphasis on
entire season performance
, which i think is a good thing for college wrestling.

Two different proposals are out there for determining qualifiers:
(1) The champion from each league tournament/NCAA qualifier will get an automatic bid with all others handed out by a selection committee after the conference tournaments.
(2) Based on some sort of power ranking - I'm sketchy on details - conferences will be given a number of bids right prior to their tournament(s).

To say the MAC has been a one team conference is a terrible statement. Obviously CMU is the power of the MAC but every other team has produced AAs in the past ten years aside from KSU who has had numerous wrestlersa in the round of 12.
OU- Enright (2X), Gardner (2X, national champ), Courtad, Percival (4X)
NIU- Heizer, Owen, Hiatt, Galloway in round of 12
UB- Cerminara (2X0
EMU- Feeney
I know I am leaving off a few names but this shows that the MAC has competed and it has not just been with CMU.

i recognized Ohio U in 1998 with a NCAA champion and another finalist, and the Percival era---- but for
a dozen year period
it doesnt add up to much other than C Mich. There have been a handful of years in the last decade when C Mich has
crowned 8, even 9, MAC champions, thats domination clearly
. Thats how i see it anyway.

Nobody is arguing that CMU is atop the MAC, but I am just saying that other teams have proven to compete. Compare their reults at nationals with the ACC, PAC-10,, Southern conference, East Region and even the EWL, and the MAC will look pretty good based on the numbers. And it is not just done by the Chippewas.

C Mich this year had
All 4 of the MAC's AAs
---- certainly others may see things differently from me, but thats how i see it..
i think next year Kent has several kids that can make AA, and i like alot Germane Lindsey at Ohio U. So there are bright spots out there, but right now C Mich casts a huge shadow.
Cleveland st signed early
Jordan Keller of Kansas who just won NHSCA Seniors tourn.

KSU AA prospects:
1) Nic Bedelyon...I think with Coach Moore to guide him, he becomes a bigger threat each year. His strength was top position. In many ways, he and Nikko Triggas are mirror images...strong on top but need work on their feet. If Bedelyon continues to improve, I like his odds in a year or two.
2) Dan Mitcheff...the talent is there. But he faded a bit towards the end of the season. I think there's a level of mental toughness he needs to develop but that's my view from the cheap seats.
3) Dustin Kilgore...a lavish talent, Kilgore had an excellent redshirt season. It was a gutsy move not to use him as he could have helped the squad. I think it helps in the long run. Going back to high school, he needs to become a more proficient rider. His inability to keep down Brian Roddy cost him a second state title (because he was better on his feet in that match). Mike Pucillo's improved riding won him a national title. The sooner Kilgore gets solid on top, the faster he becomes a legit AA candidate.
4) Drew Lashaway...strikes me as a self-made D1 wrestler. He needs a wrinkle in his game to break through. Certainly, he proved he can wrestle competitively with upper echelon kids. But beating them requires a bit more. This offseason he has to find a new element to his style.

The beat goes on too, reality is a beach, but theres no point in not facing it:
MOUNT PLEASANT – A pair of wrestlers who will be the wearing maroon and gold of Central Michigan next season claimed individual titles at the National High School Coaches Association Senior Nationals last weekend.
Scotti Sentes
(Fort Myers, Fla./Riverdale HS) and
Ben Bennett
(Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) won titles at 125 pounds and 171 pounds, respectively. A third CMU signee,
Eric Cubberly
(Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood HS) placed third at 160 pounds.
Bennett was selected as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler. CMU and Minnesota were the only programs to have two of their signees win individual titles at the tournament.
Sentes was a four-time high school state champion and posted a career record of 213-3 with 152 pins at Riverdale High School. He recently was featured in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd.
Bennett was a three-time Michigan state champion at Rockford High School. He matched Sentes with an identical 213-3 career record. Bennett recorded 125 career falls.
Fans can log on to flowrestling.com for video of all of the tournament’s matches and interviews with selected wrestlers.
CMU finished tied for the seventh as a team at the 2008 NCAA Championships. Four Chippewas claimed All-America honors, including 197-pound national runner-up Wynn Michalak.
CMU has won 10 consecutive MAC titles and seven straight conference tournament championships.

I think another thing the staff at CMU does (other than getting the diamonds in the rough) is developing their talent. They'll take a one-time state placer and make him a point scorer at the national tournament! Then, when they pick up those outstanding wrestlers, they, in a sense, create even more of an environment for those wrestlers to learn and emerge as great college wrestlers. By the time these 'diamonds' are juniors and seniors, they have made amazing gains since day one. That has to help the confidence a bit.
It is a great thing that CMU has going on up there. I'd like to see the likes of OU, CSU and KSU (as far as non-BigTen Ohio schools are concerned) travel that road.

I think it is obvious that KSU is on the right track. Andrassy has done a great job in the past few years. As far as OU goes, I think we are about to see a turn around in Athens. The young talent they have is focused and will make their mark in the next few years.
