"Drew do not hate the kid, I wish him all the best. There is just a different expectation at Ohio state than most schools. If you can’t compete for an All American status i consider it a hole in Ohio states lineup. I do not see him even as an NCAA qualifier next year. He is 12-2 record this season with a very weak schedule. He did have a good win over the Rutgers kid but the rest of the results are worrisome imo.
Here are some
7-6 win #51 bates
5-4 win naia kid
7-5 sv win Gavin bell #112
10-2 loss #35 Indiana
3-1 sv win #68 northwestern
3-2 win #111 Cleveland State
All wrestlestat rankings btw
He would be a fine addition to a mac school or many other programs but will struggle badly in the big ten. See him as a spot starter. The reason Tom Ryan went after Rotogokze so late in the process is he thought Geog would be 184. Once Tom realized Geog was going to be 197 he recruited Rotogotzke hard. Tom knows 184 is an area of concern for the future and got who ge wanted. Hope he proves me wrong and wins a national championship but I have followed him the last three years and haven’t seen much of any progression. His sophomore year was the top of his recruiting class and beating Feldman. They have went completely different trajectories."

I know you aren’t high on Shumate but what makes you so high on Geog? He has been dominated his last few matches by fringe AA guys. Shumate has a better career win over former AA. As buckeyes fan I hope they both turn out to be studs.

Good dual overall for the Bucks. This match showed us exactly how good Mendez is. Arujau is a stud and can go with Fix and RBY (although I don't see anyone beating RBY). I thought Mendez gave him a good battle.

I think Geog is just getting outhorspowered by the last couple guys. I think he is still small for the weight. Kollin Moore had losses to worst kids his true freshman year. I just think Shumate has peaked where Geog still has an upward trajectory. Tom Ryan himself that Geog has a worth ethic like all the elite guys he has ever coached. Putting together a great offseason will not be an issue. Year one to two in college wrestling is when kids make the biggest jump. I am still very high on Geog even with the bad losses last couple matches.

To be fair the 10-2 loss vs Ind. was at 197, not 184 for Shumate. Anyway, I see that Bryce Hepner beat Carson in the wrestle offs, then won the MSU Open beating Cam Amine 6-4 while shutting out his first 3 opponents on the way to the finals. Then TR says he will RS him this year but never wrestled in any of the opens the remainder of the season. Does anyone know what became of him after his November wins?

Jack, that’s a good question regarding Hepner and his lack of activity. After his early success and the news that he would redshirt I had the feeling he might take over 165 next year with Karchla moving to 174 for a final season. Hopefully he is healthy. Injuries this season have been the worst the Buckeyes have had in the many seasons I have been following.

That was a long way to go for a glorified dual between some starters and largely backups. Very few weights had both starters. I’m sure both programs wanted to be as healthy as possible in two weeks for the post season, but man…I’m not sure I would’ve even tuned in if I would’ve known the lineups prior to. Why schedule that match? Are you concerned that Hoffman, Kharchla, and more recently Romero haven’t wrestled much in the last month?

I was lucky enough to be treated to some vip treatment for the Nebraska match and coach Ryan talked with us before the match.
The team has some minor injuries that they were sitting people for. Everyone will be back for the big 10s.

Points conceded but the match itself was entertaining. I enjoyed watching it in between cutting a few steaks and making some sandwiches.

Remember, Geog wrestled 175 last year, he is obviously small for the weight. If Hoffman comes back next year I wouldn’t be surprised if Geog man’s 184 for the season.

Geog won’t see 184 again. He’s too lean to make that cut and be effective. He’ll just add size to compete with the men at 197.

Geog physically looks great.
He needs better hand fighting and setups.
Allred and Cardenas are not physically better athletes than he.
Just better at hand fighting and staying in position.
His biggest value add in the off season would be to really work on hand fighting and set ups. His penetration and quickness are fine. His path to the leg needs refined. He could learn a lot from Kaleb Romero due to their similar styles.
Romero has come a long way in terms of always wrestling from solid position.
