Paddy is a legit top 10 wrestler. Herman is not there. Paddy beat two all Americans last year before injury and only lost to all Americans. Herman didn’t beat anyone of much relevance. Herman is a good room guy but I would compare him to Andre Gonzales. If Herman is the starter it would be a glaring weakness at Ohio State.
Rocco’s offense looks much better this year also. Bullock is no slouch.
Mendes dominates Stanicg who was number one ranked at one point last year. He may be a hodge threat.

I figured I was stretching on the Herman comment but he looks much better than last season.

Jack: Birden is a talented guy but he needs to get a lot better at his finishes.

I don't think you're stretching. I agree, props to Herman. Sure, he's somewhat limited. But he looks to be at the very least a guy that can be competitive with Big 10 competition if needed.
Only a RS freshman, not a highly touted recruit. Must be working hard.

I like how he wrestles. He's dynamic with his attacks and he's always looking to score.

Bouzakis wrestled well today. Davino is just that good. Absolutely no reason to make a lineup change. Nic is fine.
Geog showed life in the Beard match. Something to build on.
Where was Rogotzke? Any chance he’s shrinking to 174? Seems unlikely, but I’m not sure where he goes if Rocco is the new 184.
125 isn’t settled by a long shot.
Feldman needs to be thinking NCAA title. It’s within reach.

Drew: I do think Nic looked good but how do you shelf Davino? He's a potential title contender. And even if you redshirt Davino, what happens next year?
These are good problems but they're problems. And if you land Marcus Blaze, you've really got a log jam.

If Davino is considered a potential title contender after beating Nic on a late TD, what is Nic considered ?

Bouzakis is not the threat that Davino is imo. Just look at his losses last year. Tyler Knox, Julian farber, sentinello, rini. Several guys outside the top 20. Davino isn’t losing to anyone outside the top 20 I promise. I see Bouzakis as maybe a low all American on a good weekend maybe. I just can’t trust him at this point to string together a full tournament.
Davino has wins over Jax Forrest, Marcus blaze, Braeden Davis and now two NCAA qualifiers this weekend. I see no one as much of a favorite over Davino. I wish he could get a top 5 guy as a measuring stick. If he can get a Bailey, ragusin, crookham, Shawver, or Ayala you test him out and if he’s winning you go with him, but you don’t pull the redshirt until then.
As for it being a close match that is the type of matches Davino wrestles. Doesn’t give up anything. He’s almost impossible to score on like Welsh. Also need to consider Bouzakis is probably in peak form coming off a world tournament last week while Davino is only going to get better as the season goes on like Myles Martin and Rocco Welsh did as true freshman.
If Marcus blaze comes it’s probably Bouzakis being the odd man out. Someone on Penn states forum said that Vinny Bouzakis has reopened his recruitment. Not sure if that’s true but Vinny’s stock has fallen quite a bit over the last few months. Taken a few bad losses.

I don't think it's that simple.
1) Davino has beaten one (1) top 20 wrestler so far, and that's his teammate. High school wins are no longer relevant... everyone starts their college career 0-0.
2) Matches between teammates aren't always the best indicator for performance against the rest of the field.
3) Wrestling in a U23 freestyle tournament doesn't necessarily mean Bouzakis is "peaking." Different style, and we don't know what his training schedule has been coming off of his preparation for that event.
4) None of Mendez, Martin, Welsh, or Martin displaced somebody of Bouzakis' caliber from the lineup.
5) Is Davino comfortable redshirting? Seems fairly likely that this was the plan, but plans can change.
6) If Bouzakis is benched, will he stick around? Will his brother? Would the staff actually prefer to have that money freed up?
It's a long season. Thankfully with the new redshirt rules both guys can get multiple opportunities against high level competition, and this decision doesn't need to be made any time soon.
I agree if they get Blaze that changes things, but as far as I've seen nobody even has a solid indication which way he's leaning.

Only way Davino goes is if it becomes apparent that he’s a title contender and if Bouzakis is taking head scratching losses.
Not ruling that out, but we’re a long way from making either conclusion.
In a perfect world, Bouzakis starts living up to his hype, and Davino sits. Then, next year the lineup looks as follows:
133-Davino
141-Bouzakis
149-Mendez
Blaze, if here, redshirts or challenges for a spot.
Bouzakis looked good yesterday. Let’s give him a chance to fix the focus issues that hurt him last year. He is very, very talented.

Davino earned the spot if he wants it. Health is not gaurenteed in wrestling. Ask hunter, Carson, Bo. If davino ultimately doesn’t care and it’s up to the staff then you let Davino wrestle cklv and see where he really stands.
If Marcus comes I can almost assure he’s going right away. Mendes says he doesn’t cut very much and plans to stay at 141. For the teams sake we definitely need him to transfer to a 149.

Clarion Open is only one data point, but generally agreed. If Davino wants to go and he's the better guy it would be difficult not to let him.
As far as Jesse not moving up, he won't be a big 149 but his eyes are going to be on 65kg. When it gets time to make that decision I doubt he'll want to hold a lower weight (141) for another whole year as he prepares to compete for world titles.

Geog with two elite attacks on his feet against Beard. That's improvement. Still needs other pieces and parts to the game. But scoring points from neutral is what is likely to earn an AA status. Almost seemed like he surprised himself with that high crotch. Hopefully that gives him confidence going forward that he can take down anyone.
Also, these scores are deceiving with three point takedowns. An 8-3 score typically meant a lopsided win; not so much anymore.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how good Jesse looked at Clarion? This is the performance you respect from a returning NCAA champ. Stanich, 5th in country last season, had just beaten Lemley in OT and Jesse tore him up.
