Shout out to Kharchla, that was awesome. Beating Kennedy who is a grinder in Carver-Hawkeye is a huge accomplishment. That he did so in a completely controlled way was outstanding. One thing. Please tape your headgear straps together. I've seen it in two of your matches in which the strap gets pulled down to eye level and you take hands out of position to adjust.

Mcrone! He has to win that match. Looked like Iowa had him scouted well and Cruz executed the gameplan. Same at heavyweight. Nice match by kharchla, but I think he's the better wrestler. 125 & 285.... very disappointing.

What frustrates me about McCrone is when he gets the boots in the ONLY thing he looks for is the cradle. I find it hard to believe with the staff they have no one has taught him other pinning or turning moves. Bo used to go to the power half, Logan with the arm bars, ??? Someone get a hold of Mitch Clark...

There’s always one let down performance every year where performance falls short of expectation. Last year the dual with PSU was suppose to be a blow out but the Bucks out performed expectations. Carver has a tendency to suck the wind out of other teams sails, and miraculously Iowa always manages to show up.

The Good
Jesse continues to operate like a runaway freight train. Decimating all opponents and managing wins over those that are even remotely close to him. He has Lemley and Beau on the forefront. He is the epitome of consistency. Carson notched an impressive win, which is what you would expect out of a veteran that’s been there before. I’ve been most impressed with his stout defense. Hes always been hard to score on, but has he given up a takedown yet this year?

Concerns
The playlist is out on McCrone and dare I say Feldman to extent. I would expect this highly effective coaching staff to make some adjustments. The days of guys picking down on McCrone are done. Currently, he does not possess the skill set to be a competitive top 10/15 guy with his neutral arsenal. He is scramble dependent, and guys have figured out how to finish clean on him. Feldman is the second best counter heavy weight in the country behind only Gable Steveson. Only problem is no one wants to shoot on him anymore. Nick can score on most, and I think Keuter’s use of his length allowed him to win this match. I would expect the tides to shift, but Feldman is edging himself out of AA range based on rankings. I think he’ll be able to turn it around.
The rest of the lineup is replete with guys who are what they are. Draw dependent solid but not great guys. Maybe Bousakis has the ability to punch above where he’s at. That’s Jesse and Carson are solidly AAs, with Feldman and Bousakis within striking range. On a great weekend, Dylan and maybe if Paddy goes back to 157. But that’s another issue…

Actually, I've been impressed with how Sasso has improved over the last few months. In November he was sluggish, weak and poorly conditioned. Now he has been looking better. If he keeps improving an AA in the 7 to 8 range may be achievable.

Agree the book is out on McCrone.

Dylan is not going to beat a good scrambler

I believe Teemer has always gotten the best of Sammy going back to HS

Paddy is going to struggle against fast athletic guys

Carson looked great

I actually thought Ryder wrestled a good match and was able to fend off a few good shots. Looked like he gassed a little.

Didn’t watch 197 or 285.

Bucks always have one performance where everyone fears the sky is falling.

TR has a history of having the guys perform their best in March.

In a Flo interview TR said Hepner and Geog are out for the season, so Shumate will be 197. He said he thought both Bouzakis or Davino are good enough to win a NCAA championship so he has Davino in RS. He talked about Sammy getting better but still can't do some things he used to do, and time is running out, whatever that means??

Yeah that’s a cyrptic take, curious if any insiders have any insight on the the comment.

He say anything about 125? Wonder if we could see Vinny for PSU

Time is running out on both his season and his collegiate career or maybe his time as the starter.

Thought Jared nailed McCrone in his assessment. Everyone knows they can shoot on him. They just had to learn how to finish. He has to make an adjustment or it's time for Kilkeary. Just to be clear--I like McCrone.

Said it before and will say it again--Kharchla reminds me of Romero. He has made terrific adjustments in terms of finishing shots and tactics. Kennedy is a tough out and Kharchla controlled the bout from start to finish.

If Bucks win 125 and 285, they win the dual. Transfers or not, tOSU had the opportunity.

Not sure I agree with this. In November he started out like 6-0 (albeit leser opponents) and since then hovering around a .500 record with very few bonus point victories. Teemer's first match in 2ish months was Saturday. he was shaking off rust. Pretty sure he scored on 3 of 4 shot attempts. If he's in better shape or taking more shots he wins by more, easily.

McCrone is better suited for a tournament format where his opponent won’t have all week implementing a game plan. Plus, his body will have more time to recover from what must be a difficult cut.

There will be no change at 125. Tom Ryan said after the match that 157 is the only weight unsettled. Is Kilkeary injured? We haven’t seen him in a while.

Iowa is very good. If not for Penn State, we’d be talking more about this being potentially the Hawkeyes best team under Brands. Half of the lineup is ranked first or second.

Bucks looked ok. Kharchla is wrestling at his best in three years, Davino displayed championship level stuff, and Mendez has maintained focus with no sign of letdown from 2024 title.

Feldman wins a rematch with Kueter.
