I’m just going to state that when people say “Dual Meets Will Save Wrestling” - THIS!!!!!!! is the type of dual that is meant. (Because last night’s Licking Heights/Johnstown affair was not it. Although it was good. But I digress.)
This match will be close the whole way through, possibly many lead changes, and will have math guys running the numbers at matches 7, 8, & 9.

Rogotzke just went toe to toe with Arnold and stuck a good opponent from Michigan. He's not getting MD'd."

Max is gonna be a national champ in the next year or two, way too good on his feet. Maybe you and I need to stick to just the recruiting topics, lol.

I hate the outcome, but loved the duel. Kudos to Feldman wrestled tough, he did his job. Shumate was so close, he’s been close with a lot of top 10ish guys this year. Paddy not wrestling killed them, may have been a different outcome; but woulda, coulda, shoulda. Time for Penn state. If they’re not battle hardened, they will be.

The number of near miss takedown that have burnt Shumate seems crazy. He's wrestling very well, imo.

Are Bucks heading in direction of Oklahoma State under John Smith? Smith's last half dozen years, they were still a name program but no longer top tier. We've been spoiled for the last couple decades but the program seems stuck at the moment. We might get one last hurrah next year with senior Mendez, the return of Welsh and the rest of the lineup being very experienced. But then what?
Minny, which hasn't landed a huge national recruit in years, is doing a better job developing talent. Same for Nebraska. Iowa isn't but they're buying wrestlers.
David Taylor to OSU put a dagger in Buckeye recruiting. Top kids will always go to PSU, Okie State or get purchased by Iowa. Bucks will be competing with Cornell, Virginia Tech, NC State, Minny, Nebraska, Mizzou and eventually UNC for the rest.
I don't know what the Bucks should do but I don't think the status quo is going to be good enough if the ambition remains to win NCAA titles.
Marcus Blaze, the best Ohio prep since David Carr, to PSU was a canary in the coal mine. Losing Forrest to Okie State was a dozen dead canaries.
Just my opinion. Hope I'm wrong.

I swear every year a similar post is made.
Nebraska develops guys? Like who? Nebraska has finished a head of the Bucks 1 time in the last 5 years at NCAA.
Minnesota has a great team this year anchored by one of the best guys ever and I wouldn't be shocked if they beat Iowa next week.
FYI McNelly was the #3 recruit coming out in 2023. That same year they signed #12 Gavin Nelson.
Tommy Askey was #17 in 2020.
Koy Hopke 285. #4
Whiting #32
Side not its crazy to look back at Flo big boards and see how many top guys never did anything in College. Makes you appreciate the effort these guys are putting in to be AA.
Could you be right about their path? Maybe but I would bet against it.

Nebraska's entire lineup is solid. They are getting a huge boost out of guys like Antrell Taylor and Caleb Smith. They had 4 AA's last season even though Bucks finished ahead of them at NCAA's with 3. Bucks have landed more big time recruits. As you pointed out, sometimes they don't work out.
I don't know. People see what they want to see. Objectively, I think the Bucks are a very good program but to be one of the great ones you've got to land the superstars. And I think David Taylor moving to Stillwater hurts our ability to land top recruits. It's a chess match. What's the next move for Ohio State?

Maybe it is just me or my way of thinking but I don't see a "team" as being better because they finished higher in the NCAA tournament. Just like in track, a team can win relays and tournaments with a few good/great sprinters but that never happens with distance guys.
In this sport, a team can win a lot of duals and never win a tournament. Conversely a good tournament team might not win any duals because they have no depth. Sometimes, but rarely, they are the same team. PSU fits this mold as they are outstanding at every weight. To me, comparing OSU and Nebraska or Minnesota on the basis of the National tournament placement is not valid.
To me the better team is the team that wins their duals. Actually I have often wondered why a "team" score is kept in the NCAA tournament.
Just sitting here and thinking because I have no life on a snowy Saturday.
Fire away!

I’m curious if Bousakis was a healthy scratch. Cannon made sense, but a win against the number 8 guy might be a stretch. I have to think there’s sickness or injury related reasons to roll with the lineup that they did. It’s hard to pull out a win against a dual team like Minnesota with less than their best lineup. Indiana on Sunday should be telling.
As far as what Hank shared, I do think the Bucks are being elbowed out of some of these recruiting battles. 2022 represents the apex of successful classes. Since then we’ve pulled Welsh in 23, Davino in 24, no one of high impact in 25, and 26 is looking paltry so far. Not sure how in on the Raney’s we are, sounds like Iowa is a possible landing spot. It’s also been reinforced that Ohio just isn’t producing blue chip depth in recent years. It’s sometimes easy to get swept in misses with recruiting. That can quickly shift with a big pickup or two, but you have a guy like Ralph on staff whose sole job is to bring guys in. At some point people will start questioning whether or not it’s viable to keep paying someone on staff that doesn’t work with guys on a technical front.
