Medical forfeits now count on records. Nick forfeited out of Vegas which gave him two really ugly losses. He has five loses to three people, Keuter, Gable, and the Michigan kid. The two medical forfeits are to guys no where near the top 33

I understand the reason for penalizing a medical forfeit, as it disincentivizes gamesmanship. But this should apply only to qualifying tournaments, like the conference championships, not early season events with relatively little on the line.
Feldman was legitimately hurt at CKLV and missed some time. He shouldn’t be punished for making the only reasonable decision in that situation.
But in this specific instance I don’t really care. Feldman’s good enough to win his first three matches.

I’ve spent hours utilizing AI, game theory, and rock, paper, scissors to project out the best possible scenarios for the Bucks and some of the other squads. Thoughts…
-Cornell might be the best team no one has talked about all year. They seemed to have been off the radar, but they have a potential champ with Shipiro at 157. Ramirez and Foca are highly seeded with favorable paths. My sleeper for the tournament is #21 seed Josh Saunders. The guy was making world teams a couple years back if memory serves. Haven’t heard from him in a bit.
-My falling off the cliff awards (pre-tournament) will go to Illinois and Nebraska. We heard all off season how Illinois was poised to make a big jump. They had a decent season but put all the parts together for a great Big Tens. I’d really like Byrd to win it all, unless Bousakis can finally be consistent. I think they likely peaked early and are ripe for a let down. The Braunagels are tough outs but I don’t see them, Luffman, and Webster pulling through this week to AA.
Likewise I think Nebraska comes back to the pack a bit. Nebraska has really cemented itself as the best of the next tier of teams in the Big Ten. Always an elite dual team, they are solid up and down the lineup but lack the high end national champ points you need to push for a trophy. 125, 141, and 149 can produce big points, but I think they are unlikely to wrestle to seed. They slip back this week, but not out of the top 7.
-Now for the Bucks. Unlike last year, OSU has seemingly been stagnant this year. Outside of maybe Cannon I don’t think you can point to one person on the team and say that they are wrestling better than last season. Maybe D’Emilio. I don’t see McCrone, Paddy, Shumate, or Rogotzke getting more than a win. Two tops at this tournament…hopefully I’m wrong. Jesse is not looking like the Mendez of last year, so we need to hope he finds that extra gear to run the gauntlet that is his path. If anyone is capable it’s him. Bousakis is the wild card this weekend. I think the Bucks success relies on him finally wrestling to his capabilities. He has some really tough matches early, but I have him storming through the backside of the tournament to make a AA, which would poise the bucks for a high finish. Likewise if we see McCrone actually catch fire it would be nice. But the 125lber is 6-7 since January 1. That doesn’t scream confidence following a lackluster Big Tens. His limited offense just are a substantial barrier at NCAAs. I have Jesse losing to Bartlett in the semis, largely due to reverse psychology. He hasn’t demonstrated an ability to finish and pressure for seven minutes like he did this time last year. Hopefully he puts it together. If he makes the finals he repeats as champ. I really like how Dylan is wrestling this year. While I don’t think he can beat the upper echelon guys, I do think he is much better than his 12 seed. I have him finishing sixth. Cannon could be the feast for famine pick of the tournament. He has the draw against the worst 4 seed in the tournament. He can make the semis. Beyond that time will tell. Kharchla is an unknown. He has to figure out a way to close out matches. That’s been a missing component with him versus elite level guys. He can beat anyone in this bracket, outside of Hamiti. I think he makes AA again and rides of into the sunset. Lastly Feldman. His true seed probably should have been the 6, but alas he is at 12. I have him losing to Kruger in the second round again, maybe more reverse psychology . He hasn’t shown that he can score on the lanky Iowan and has allowed him to slow the match down both times and get the death ridden out of him. If he wins he can make the semis. I do have him plowing through the backside with a tough blood round match. I’m hinging most of this on the fact that healthy Nick Feldman is a winner, and a better athlete than 90% of the field. Six AA’s is a likely ceiling for the Bucks, and with Jesse as a finalist could put them in striking distance of a trophy. The most likely outcome is four AA’s, no finalist and a 8-10th place finish unless they show a substantial jump from Big Tens.

Is this the last year for the "Covid extra year"? Almost all of the top heavyweights are 5th year guys. For crying out loud, wrestle 4 years and be done already! It's not fair to the underclassmen in any weight class.

I thought so, but Brock Hardy somehow has another year, and I'm assuming that's not possible without the Covid year

Looks like Hardy wrestled (briefly) in 21, which was the free year. Then he took an actual RS year in 22. Wrestled 23,24,25. So anyone who was a true freshman in 21 that wrestled in 21, then red shirted in 22-25, would have 1 year left.

He graduated HS in 2018 and served a two-year mission trip in Rio de Janeiro for the Church of Latter Day Saints, before going to Nebraska in 2020.

Matters none whether he wrestled or sat in 2021. It’s as if that season doesn’t exist.
How about Kharchla.
2019-senior year of HS
2020-RS
2021-injured but season didn’t count
2022-freshman All-American
2023-round of 12
2024-injured early on and should qualify for medshirt
2025-ninth seed at nationals
2026-final year of eligibility assuming he is granted medshirt
