I’m not saying it’s not happening, but has any student athlete come out and confirmed the amount of NIL money they are making? Has anyone shown their tax returns or any proof of this kind money is being thrown around? Or is it all just speculation?
I’ve seen a lot of numbers put out there, but never from anyone directly involved. I must confess in advance that I’m just not well informed on the particulars of this kind of stuff. And this site is as close as I get to “social media”, so if it’s just out there for everyone to see on ticktock or instagram, my apologies.

Tax returns... seriously?
What we have to go on is the reporting that's been done on the topic.

I get that, but that’s all we have to go on, what someone says they heard. Is there an article from a reputable source that has exactly how much this guy or that guy got? Has anyone who received money confirmed the reports? It just seems odd that this kind of money is being tossed around by a select few programs and the best we have is speculation.
I want to be clear, I don’t think it’s all about money, that’s just what the narrative on this site is. I think Welsh transferring to Penn makes a ton of sense with no NIL involved.

Let's put things in prospective.
His team finished ahead of these coaches' teams - Grey, Pop, Schwab, Poeta, Robie, Bormet, Jones, Kolat, Koll and Dresser to just name a few.
He finished behind - Sanderson, Manning, Taylor and Brands.
If OSU would bring in Dake or Snyder as you suggest, what would change with these two lists?

Look what Cael Sanderson did year one, look what brands did year one, look what David Taylor did year one.i promise you they will bring in a better recruiting class than Maddox Shaw only in 2025. And 2026 doesn’t look right now that jts going to be a lot better. New blood can invigorate a program.
Michael Rocco did not leave to go to Penn state for money. I am being very sincere when I believe he may not make the lineup next year. There is no reason Penn state would throw big cash at him. His best win is ed Ruth and got the easiest draw in NCAA history. The top four guys were all on the other side of the bracket. Ed Ruth is 2-1 against him and did not all American this year. I do think he will be a four time all American but I don’t see him ever winning a championship ecspecially against Mcenelly or Ferrari. Penn state did not unload a bunch of money on him when he may be the 14th best wrestler in the team.

If that’s the case, why are your panties all in a bunch. Doesn’t that mean there’s nothing Coach Ryan could’ve done?

Rocco welsh is an isolated incident but still looks bad from an outside perspective which again does harm to the program. Rocco welsh left because he didn’t think he could develop as much under Tom Ryan. Which is probably worst than not being able to pay him. You can re read the original post. Zero guys in portal landed, failure to develop elite recruits, continuous whining, worst brick throwing coach in the NCAA. There are many reasons to move on and I have named them.

My best source would be Talia welsh from the wrestling room. She took great offense to people saying it was about Nil. I’m not sure if this is his mom or aunt or sister but she looks to be related. She said this is what he needed to do to reach his goals and it was something that wasn’t resolved and much more personal. She is more than likely in the know and bothered by people saying it is about money.
If it was about money he would be at Oklahoma state as they would have thrown much more $$ and he is an easy starter. At Penn state I can assure you didn’t throw hundreds of thousands of dollars for a potential backup that scores no bonus point. At the best he is only maybe one or two more points than Ryder at ncaas. That math doesn’t add up. Again his best career win is against ed Ruth and he scored exactly one takedown in Regulation at ncaas. Rocco welsh imo doesn’t make finals again.
So I would say it’s about three different factors
1. Penn state is the best and develop the best. He was better than Josh Barr in high school and it looks like Barr is the much better prospect now.
2. He grew up in Pennsylvania and was probably a lifetime Penn state fan. Penn state went with Barr and so Ohio state got welsh bc they were projected the same weight
3. It seems like he was really pissed about redshirting and then kharchla going 0-2. She said it was simple and personal and never resolved which I’m sure this is what she was alluding to
Don’t get me wrong I’m sure that if Welsh makes the lineup and places high he will be paid well but it is a big gamble on his half with zac Ryder who I believe was a world champ. I’m sure he has contingency in place to his nil bc for me the money can’t be gaurenteed to a guy who may be a backup.

I don't think it's that strange. There are no public disclosure requirements for NIL contracts. We don't have "confirmed reports" even for the largest NIL deals, in sports that people actually care about. Why would we expect to have more solid information for wrestling, when we're realistically talking about 100 or so athletes in total that are getting any sort of meaningful compensation?
We also don't have any solid information on what professional sports coaches are paid, because it's not subject to a salary cap and thus is considered a private business matter. We have to rely on reporting for that.
The wrestling "journalist" landscape is full of half-wit egomaniacs that couldn't write their way out of a grocery list, but they're the only sources we have. When there are multiple of them corroborating a single figure, I think it's fair to assume that it's at least close to the mark.

You keep banging this drum in every single thread. I appreciate your perspective as one of the few non-Buckeyes around here, but I don't even know who you're arguing with at this point.
You're so dug in on this "it's not the money" take. Of course it's not ALL about the money. But money IS a factor. It shouldn't be difficult to simultaneously hold both of those thoughts.
We could all sit here and go, "Gee, he's transferring to Penn State. Makes sense! They are the best, after all!" How is that interesting in any way? Wouldn't be a very long discussion.
If you want to criticize the coaching staff, just go ahead and do it. Don't sit here and play "gotcha" with each post... "But I thought you said it's not about the money! I don't think it's about the money, but you guys said it was, so how can you want to fire him! What about the money!"
Apologies for my tone, but it's a bit annoying.

Totally off topic, but when do we think Tervel will get an opportunity to be a HC? What impact is he having on Nebraska?

He can't because he just pukes info from other sites. Rocco left because Ryan screwed him this season. This isn't rocket science. The sad part is this was likely preventable.
PSU makes sense as he's a PA kid.

Brian…The reason i harp on the money is because I feel like it’s used as an excuse by Buckeye fans. We didn’t get this guy or that guy because they overpaid for him. It’s not a fair system and that’s why tOSU can’t compete. I think Ohio State playing the victim in this scenario is a little disingenuous.
But it certainly is not my intent to annoy anyone (maybe Nick, just a little). I’ll try to vary my topic contributions moving forward.

Nothing confirms something like people / relatives saying "it had nothing to do with it". LOL
If Rocco thought he couldn't develop at tOSU, he's delusional -- and judging on how he threatens to leave for Ok St, then stays here (which to me says he got $ because Ok St has it to burn), tweets "Ohio State is Home" only to leave 3 months later?
Yeah, sounds like a "great" teammate and person you want in your program.
