By the way, it’s incredibly annoying that you have to sign up for a USA wrestling account just to see brackets. The site is limited too. Just let track or Flo do it

I am a USA Wrestling member and that does nothing to help me access the brackets.

Tom Ryan needs to explain why he didn't start Davino and Welsh this past season. Davino was probably about as good this year as true frosh Jesse Mendez.

I think he already has. The staff felt that Bousakis was poised to be a national title threat. The margin of difference at the start of the season and throughout was minimal. Bousakis didn’t deliver. In retrospect it looks like the wrong choice, but I think given the circumstances it was the correct measured choice at the time. Theoretically we still get Ben for four years, and he looks to be the next big thing for the Bucks. The Rocco decision is the one that looks like the poorer of the two choices.

There’s no justification for starting Davino over Bouzakis this past season. The separation between the two was minimal, and only Davino had an available redshirt.

Bouzakis finished third at Big 10 and top 12 at NCAA. It was by most accounts a solid season. There’s no evidence Davino would’ve done any better. He wasn’t beating finalists Lucas Byrd or Drake Ayala.

We tend to forget that low AA finishes don’t net many team points. Davino finishing, say, seventh at nationals wouldn’t have been worth benching a veteran talent like Bouzakis.

Ok, rant over.

Having a USA Wrestling membership did make it a little faster to view the brackets. It asked for my member number, I pulled my coaches card put of my pocket and typed my member number, created a password, and was viewing brackets a minute later.

I was tentative at first about yet another site to view brackets, but I like the features it has. I also used it today while at the FS/GR qualifiers at Akron Garfield high school and haven't had any issues thus far.

Davino wrestles back to knock off Austin DeSanto before dropping the third place match to Marcus Blaze 7-0. I’d imagine both will compete at the U20 world team trials for a chance to make that team. Kharchla also wrestled back to take fourth dropping another match to Ruiz from Cornell by tie breaker. Jesse looked in it, but loses a one takedown match to McKenna. He’ll have to go thru the challenge tournament to get to McKenna again in a few months. Feldman ended up wrestling two more matches before getting beat handedly going 2-2 on the tournament. It’s been quite a while since he wrestled in off season freestyle tournaments, but there wasn’t much to spark a lot of confidence that his season and NCAA tournament were outliers. He was also healthy enough to compete, so I’m not sure that whatever injury he might have had was all that limiting.
In other downers, OSU signee Dom Munaretto got tech’d to be the only returning u20 world teamer to not advance in the tourney. Bummer if a day for the Bucks, but some decent showings.
It’s pretty apparent that the senior level is now a two club show…Nittany Lion vs Cowboy RTC as pretty much all but two spots went to these two clubs. Spencer, Vito, and Yanni holding it down for the other RTCs. How about Dake losing? Valencia looked incredible.

Yeah, overall I’d say not a great tournament for current/future buckeyes

Mills is extremely tough and Munaretto is small at 57k. He has one- if not two years to grown into a solid 125. He is still wrestling through backside including getting a win over a very tough Urhochuck.

Shaw one win away from placing but did take a one point loss to Vince B.

Waters tech’d by McEnelly in SF.

Davino, Bouzakis (before his injury), and Jesse all wrestled tough.

Ohio had two make it on the U17 world team. Grey Burnett of Perrysburg, and Alex Taylor of Mount Vernon. Taylor was the only wrestler to make the world team in both Greco and Freestyle.
