Jax Forrest is now enrolled and has 5 dates to use before burning his redshirt. David Taylor said he will use all five dates and guessing on his performance will determine if he will burn a year.
To all you people saying he should be living out his high school years put this into perspective. Ben Davino, Bo Bassett, Marcus Blaze and Jax Forrest are all born in the second half of 2006 only a few months apart and they range from high school senior to second year in college. It’s not even fair to the kids Bo and Jax compete against at this point.
I’m pretty confident that Jax will pass the test and be competing with Davino, Byrd, and Blaze for the NCAA title. David Taylor loves winning and will put him out if he thinks he’s ready. He’s clearly better than any 133 on the roster now.

I can think of a few reasons why this might support him finishing the last 4 months of high school. I tend to think about the human and not the wrestler in these discussions.
Athletically, history has given us many wrestlers who “have nothing left to prove” in high school but prove nothing in college.
However, he has every legal — apparently — to do what he’s doing. I did check the Okie roster and didn’t see him listed. Maybe not technically 2nd semester for them?

Anyone who knows wrestling already knew that Forrest was college ready last year. That was never in dispute. There likely aren't 10 people on the planet that can consistently beat him in Freestyle...and that's not his best discipline. In Folkstyle that number is probably below three. If he competes this season, he is a national champion contender, if not the favorite right out of the gate.
The hope, and Coach Taylor's assumption, is that the standard pitfalls that face all college freshmen, and the elevated pitfalls of a high profile athlete will be avoided by Forrest. It certainly tracks. Forrest has shown a maturity beyond his years at the Trials and while representing the US at Worlds. I wish him the best.
Both finalists are back, and the best three wrestlers at 133 are freshmen.

David Taylor has said he will use his five dates and be evaluated this semester. He probably wrestles against Ayala. Win there and you wrestle him. That will probably be the deciding factor to pull his redshirt or not.
Ronnie Ramirez scores very little points at NCAAs. Forrest could be the difference between 4th place and 2nd place. If Jax shows he has finalist potential, which I think he does, he will wrestle at NCAAs."

What are the chances Brands has Ayala wrestle that match?

With Jax officially being a college student now let's put him into the last year recruiting class D.T. put together:
Jax Forrest
Ronnie Ramirez
Sergio Vega
Landon Robideau
Ladarion Lockett
Kody Routledge
Next year's recruiting class is just as huge.

My first thought was the chance is a coin flip at best, but Iowa would likely concede the dual if they don't wrestle Ayala, so it might be quite likely they wrestle each other.

Kind of hard not to roll out Forrest and Vega at 133 and 141. I've come around to your way of thinking on this topic.

OKST remaining dual meets…
1/23: @ Missouri (#25)
1/25: v. UVU
1/30: v. UNI (#18)
2/01: v. ISU (#3 Frost)
2/06: v. UA-LR
2/15: @ VT (#15)
2/22: v. Iowa (#4 Ayala)
3/6&7 = BigXII Conference Tourney
Jax Forrest can wrestle in four of these duals and not burn his redshirt.

Watching the match last night, and the way he celebrated, it sure looks like he enjoyed wrestling in front of the Okie State crowd.

"Per Pat Mineo on X
As of now, Jax Forrest has no plan or intention of officially competing for Oklahoma State later this season. As many mentioned, it would make zero logistical sense for him to burn his first year of college eligibility in such short & rushed notice. Oklahoma State also has two 133 lbers in Figs & Ramirez (yes, Jax is obviously elite).
This isn’t to say Forrest wouldn’t go out there early to train at RTC and get a head start, but there is no plan for him to use college eligibility later this season.
Magic Man is way smarter than that…"

.
Magic man is smart. You wrestle the best man available. Health is not guaranteed in wrestling. Look at parco, teemer, and allirez last year. If you have a title contender you wrestle him. Not to mention Oklahoma state is going to have an absolute logjam next year when Raneys come in.
Oklahoma state is now Ohio states biggest threat to second place. They have finalist potential with spraltley, Forrest, Vega, robideau, and Lockett. Four of these are freshman. This will probably be the last year Ohio state can beat Oklahoma state.
