Discussion Topic: Ashland University names Tim Dernlan new Head Coach

Quote from Dan Ransick's post:

"Both the Jordan brothers went to Graham schools from K-12. So do their kids. If people want to move in to the district more power to them. What is the difference between people moving to the Graham area and them attending private schools?"
|
It would depend on why they did each, but I agree they are similar. And both give the coach and school a HUGE competitive advantage. Sports were meant to be an extracurricular, NOT the driving force behind deciding where you live or where your child attends school.
I know things are no longer how they were intended, and probably never will be, but I am not sure I would categorize it as the "right way".

Back on topic...didn't Tim coach at Penn State before Matt got there? Come on, somebody knows.
Good luck to Coach Dernlan and the Eagles. I wish you all the success in the world (except for when you wrestle Gannon for the next couple of years, then it is back on track.)

Tim was at Penn State for a while.
My memory is vague so I'm sure I'll get some of the details wrong, but I think he was originally on the coaching staff (with some club responsibilities as well) and Matt was "Director of Wrestling Development." Matt made the segue to the coaching staff and Tim went to Lehigh.

Justin, you are almost 100% correct. Switch "development" for "operations" and you're perfect.

Tony: As an Ashland wrestler, do you have an opinion on what has happened?

It is unfortunate how everything came about at the end of the season and prbably could have been handled a little better. As for Coach dernlan I am very pleased with our decision. I am also happy that the administration allowed the team to have a say in wh we brought in.Coach is working on bringing in a very good head assistant so i think things are going to get really good really quick here.

Watch out for Ashland's front headlocks -- they'll be learning from one of the best.
