Discussion Topic: Davino not seeded 1 is a joke
Chris Thomas added to this discussion on March 12, 2026

Brady, 100% agree with you. Despite others opinion on seedings and rankings it is very important to get it right at the division 1 level. Wrestling is the only sport at this level where the seedings make absolutely no sense. Anyone that want to debate or agree with the current process must be trolling. Yes you must" beat the best to be the best" but your season and prior results should impact your path in the bracket.

If he clearly should’ve been seeded, then I don’t understand why he wouldn’t be eligible for the top seed? If he’s wrestled enough to be seeded then how has he not wrestled enough to be seeded number one? I want to be clear, even had Blaze won the Big Ten Tournament, I think Forrest would’ve had a strong case for number one. He’s been killing it. If I were an Ohio State fan, I’d just be happy he’s on the other side.

Obviously, I don’t know who’s going to win, that’s why they wrestle the matches, but Forrest being the number one seed isn’t the slightest bit controversial to me.

Different opinions makes for fun discussions!!! And we have different opinions so this was fun! Now, join the Pick'em contest! :)

I believe Blaze beats Forrest in the same manner that Dake beat D.T..

Blaze, Davino, Forrest, and Seidel is a beautiful round robin of freaks. I'd have liked to see Blaze and Forrest on one side and Davino and Seidel on the other so we don't see the same matches again.

Forrest has already wrestled Seidel. Davino and Blaze have wrestled twice.

There's a chance that Forrest and Seidel are the best two guys at the weight. There's a chance that Davino and Blaze are the best two guys.

When this situation occurs, you have to split them in the bracket. It's not that complicated. The way it's drawn up we won't get to find out.

It seems that the seeding should have been

1. Davino
2. Blaze
3. Forrest
4. Seidel
5. Byrd
6. Ayala
7. Larkin

Blaze and Forrest could flip flop. Larkin has not beaten anyone and got ripped by Forrest. Byrd is the defending national champ and 3x AA. Ayala is the 2x runner-up. Larkin has done nothing to demonstrate he is better than either of them this year.

The stupidity of not considering past results when seeding is astounding.

I hate when they refuse to separate the #1 & #2 of the conference championship. Larken should be in the bottom bracket, away from Forrest and Blaze in the top bracket, away from Davino. If they already wrestled in the conference championship, geez separate them two weeks later!

Sounds like the tipping point between Forrest and Davino came down to the coaches vote. A randomized set of coaches are selected to vote on a specific weight. That small group elected to place Jax number 1, likely not off of any real criteria. Seeding is supposed to reflect the body of work done in the season. Im curious if Davino rides out blaze for the win in the dual and goes undefeated if he gets the one. Part of me things probably not under this current process. In the end it’s not that crazy. I think fans felt that Davino earned the one, and most felt like they wanted to see Jax matchup up against Blaze and the other Big Ten studs. He may steam roll everyone anyway.
