The family is leveraging their brand to create clicks and more awareness. It's not about the wrestling. It's about the brand and being a household name in the wrestling community and beyond. It's maximizing your 15 minutes of fame. With the relatively short half-life and extreme competition in wrestling it makes economic sense.
The issue is that wrestling is small community, and everyone works so much for little to no return. It's a slight to everyone that came before. Being an attention seeker in wrestling is a fairly new development and doesn't necessarily embrace the traditional culture of wrestling. That being said, wrestling needs to grow its' fan base to be viable and some of the things that Bassett is doing is creating the soap opera that so many desire.
As an aside, I started watching the new Walker (Texas Ranger) with Jared Padalecki. After reading some reviews, spoiler alert, it's more soap opera than traditional action show. Made it about 30 minutes in and decided to not invest anymore time in it.
I was a Kyle Snyder fan before I knew too much about his personal life.
Being just interested in the technical and dynamics of wrestling doesn't go a long way in promoting the sport.

So after reading up on the Bassett situation seems like the Bassets were asking Brands to break the rules and Brands said no that’s not how I am going to run my program. To train at an rtc you must live within 250 miles. The Bassetts were demanding living arraignments, per diem, and flights to and from Iowa. That is what Jax Forrest was receiving from Oklahoma state so he wanted the same treatment. Brands had enough of these demands before even stepping foot on campus. Anyway seems like it’s probably going to be Oklahoma state.

That lineup is going to be insane. That’s before any transfer portal guys either. Two top five overall recruits will be on the bench more than likely also. Penn state will be challenged for the first time in a while.

I was going to say, that lineup is without Robideau or Routledge, who are both great looking recruits from this past senior class.
