I watched at the Winking Lizard from 141 on up. Seems like Fox/Bergman always comes down to one opportunity. Neither got close to a TD. J.D. had his one window of opportunity when he almost escaped in the 3rd period, he rolled & turned and faced Fox but they were off the mat. After that Dustin just rode him out. In there last meeting he did the inside trip, but Fox countered and won in OT. There were some nice matches at 149 & of course 184 (Nice job Mike, finding a way to win) I thought Dustin was going to beat Metcalf, but his relentless style prevailed in the end, but still a very good match. I was a little surprised at 165 in that Perry didn't shoot his double leg that he was successful in the past against Tannebaum. Still a very good match with lots of scrambling. At least we got 7 out of 10 to Nationals. And in closing, Colt, welcome to Big Ten wrestling, it's
BRUTAL
. Better luck next year. <thumbsup>

McKnight was no surprise, I thought the other WC may have went to Safratovich.
What's interesting is that some of the wrestlers who lost first consolation matches were "better" (i.e. more credentialed) than those that took 8th. Namely Craig Henning - and others.

McKnight got the wild card? wow. That's a surprise. Kinser wrestled his butt off and earned it.
I agree with Josh that Safratowitch was a more deserving pick.
I'd have picked Henning over McKnight.

Henning was not eligible to be picked for the WC. The WC's are picked from 8th place finishers. Actually, I was more surprised by the pick of Kinser than I was McKnight. McKnight is a senior who had qualified for the NCAA's 3 times previously and had been ranked in the top 10 all year. Kinser, on the other hand was not ranked and had very few quality wins throughout the season until his upset victory over Lang. Tough to give a WC on the strength of one upset victory. I would have given the WC to McKnight and Safratowich.

Gary: Nice to see Dave have a very good Big Ten Tourney.
I see your point about McKnight. But McKnight faded hard last season and seemed to do the same thing again when the matches mattered the most.
As to the Henning situation...The MAC gave Luke Smith a wildcard over the kid who finished ahead of him. I thought that was ridiculous but assumed it meant the coaches could do what they wanted. I stand corrected.

i havent studied
the "Luke Smith situation",
but if the MAC coaches agreed to send Smith then it must be ok i think.
With C Mich completely dominating the MAC for a decade or more, no one is going to do Borrelli any favors unless it was earned.
it is in the entire conferences interest to send guys who can make a mark at NCAAs. Borrelli only gets one vote, same as each of the other MAC coaches.
