5 wins tonight, not bad. Luke got caught with his arm pinned on his back. Wish he would have converted that 2nd leg attack, but credit Lee. Kinner showed why he should be the starter going forward, the leg ride can be the great equalizer. GTG had a beautiful TD at the end and Nevills was too tired to get the escape. If GTG puts on about 15 more pounds of muscle in the off season he could be a top 10 guy next year. One question, did Verkleeren take one shot the whole match?

One Chipotle card owed!
I have to be honest. The Bucks had more of a path to victory than I thought. Although there are no moral victories in this rivalry I think the Buckeyes showed up. To wrestle at Carver Hawkeye in front of 13,000 and then at Bryce Jordan in front of 16,000 hostile fans and put forth a solid effort says a lot about the moxie on this team.
Supposedly Heinsleman, Koontz, Kiner, and Cleary are all wrestling at an open tomorrow, for what I assume will be the final evaluation of who gets each spot. I think Kiner has shown you enough to claim the spot after his win over AA Berge. Just my two cents.
As far as match takeaways I thought Malik did what he was expected to do. I don’t think Koontz would’ve scored bonus, but would’ve likewise pulled out the win. I don’t think they wanted Dylan to make weight two days in a row. That would’ve been brutal.
Decatur battled for 75% of the match. I was concerned that he would give up bonus prior to the match. He almost did, but managed to pull it together. No sense beating a dead horse. I have to hope he’s better in a tournament format after a two hour weigh in.
Pletcher’s loss was the first time we’ve seen chinks in the armor this season. One think we know is that Luke bounces back. This loss was not like his losses to Micic. He had a decided technical disadvantage against Micic. This seemed more like a general wilting under Lee’s pressure. This seemed like a replay of the McKenna loss last year. Luke can win that match.
Verkleeran is hard to put up points on. Without an opponent shooting on Sammy it’s difficult for him to get his offense going. One thing I have supreme confidence in is the fact that if a match becomes a brawl Sammy has the temerity to slug out a win with just about anyone.
Great win for Kiner. I was surprised to see Berge out there, and he definitely appeared to struggle as the match went on. Kiner was able to capitalize.
Ethan Smith wrestled a typical Ethan Smith match. He takes down everyone, but loses focus as the match wears on. I haven’t gone back and looked, but I feel like Ethan has lost lots of matches in the back half of the third period. Maybe that’s obvious, but I feel like he wrestles 85% of a match.
Not much to say about Kaleb. Many of people have fallen victim to Halls mixer, although I have to think these guys watch film on opponents. Who’s not aware that Mark Hall hits that from the front headlock position?
Rocky’s match was an absolute drubbing. He made Brooks look like an absolute NCAA finalist.
Kollin demolished Rasheed. He may have wrestled, but he didn’t really wrestle Nieman! But a bets a bet.
How about the Gas tank!! The legend persists!

Going 5-5 at PSU can be considered a moral victory.
I thought Heinselman wrestled a much smarter match from a strategic point of view. He maintained good position and was able to properly respond to his opponents attacks. That was a good win.
For six minutes plus, Decatur was solid against RBY...then he fell apart. It wasn't epic like his match against Desanto but he's got to figure out how to slow down an onslaught in the last 30 seconds.
Pletcher and Lee was round one. Adjustments will be made. But Pletcher has to win the battle on their feet as he's not going to want to take bottom...although he better be prepared to do it.
Verkleenen stalled the entire match against Sasso and didn't get called once. If you're strong, capable and allowed not to initiate offense, you can keep it close with Sammy Houdini. Best part of the match was the fact Sam kept his composure and found a way to win.
Kinner did a nice job though I think Berge was in terrible shape. I also think Cleary wins that match as well. Regardless, it was a nice win for the Bucks.
As with Decatur, I think Jared has excellent insights into Smith at 165. He did a really nice job until he didn't. Joseph is a beast so that should be kept in mind.
I was yelling for Romero to be aware of the mixer...
Hall likes to come out guns blazing. He did it against Kemerrer and just missed.
Rocky v Brooks is a match up problem. Rocky had no answer for Brooks speed on one particular leg attack. That needs to be addressed as this match should have been close.
Moore has had some rough outings v PSU so it was nice to see him dissect Shakur in front of a huge crowd.
All I can say about GTG is that he has saved the Bucks season. With little exception, he gives an excellent effort every match.
Generally speaking, this dual interested me because PSU, in spite of their prodigious talents, looked more out of shape and mentally fragile than any version of the Nits I've seen in a long time. The Bucks wrestled well for the most part and did what they needed to do in every winnable match. This wasn't the 2018 superteam losing because Nate got headlocked and Myles gave up lazy back points. This was a less talented version of the Bucks wrestling with more grit and fire. I like the 19-20 Bucks. They have had a few rough moments but there is no denying their competitive spirit.

Does anyone know why Decatur, Kinner & Hoffman are wrestling today in the JCU Open? What's up with that?

I was more surprised to see who wasn’t wrestling. TR stated prior to the dual that Cleary, Malik, and Koontz were all slated to be there. Kiner was the inky one who showed. Decatur has more than the minimum already. Not a clue what’s going on.

I was also hoping Kharchla was going to wrestle, just wanted to see him get more college experience. But I guess they still have school work to do, so whatever...

Some thoughts from the wrestling.
Malik doesn't finish right away and is slow to react when he gets in on a leg. It drives me bonkers. I want a wrestler to be thinking ahead and making the other guy react to his actions. That is something fundamental that must change and until then more of the same.
Decatur is pacing himself which I suspect is due to the large weight cut. Calorie restriction and dehydration are good for photo shoots but not so much wrestling performances. That is a sizeable problem to overcome. That being said his underlying wrestling has shown to be fantastic. If a match was three minutes, he could spend his energy without consequence, but as it is, his effort to get down to weight is becoming apparent. His win over Northwestern was measured and paced. Something good is that he is wrestling the best of the best, so his weakness is magnified and maybe he beats the lower ranked 6-12 guys.
Pletcher won the first half of that match. Disclaimer, I am a Lee fan as he is a terminator that just keeps plugging away. Totally respect his wrestling. It was as if that match turned on a dime. As for stalling, NCAA wrestling has lost its' mind. If a guy is on top and riding parallel, there is such an overwhelming advantage to the top man that calling stalling on bottom just makes no sense to me. I remember seeing this years ago ('91)for the first time when Brands wrestled Fried in Iowa City. Brands planted Fried's arm on his back and laid on top of him and Fried was called for stalling. Just ridiculous.
Sasso's style is difficult to wrestle and becomes more difficult after having competed against him. I really like his chances of winning this year. His poise is just awesome.
Thank you Quinn Kinner! I'm a fan of all guys that can ride on top and throw boots. It's an art of which some wrestlers possess. I'm looking forward to seeing far he can take this game. Reach for the top and be a Mitch Clark.
Jared nails Ethan Smith performance. So good for a window of time, lapse, really good again, lapse. Winning really comes down to being good at position for the entire match and guys that can do it for part of a match at least have shown that they are capable of this. It's a mental thing. I suspect his calorie intake and hydration status confound things. In essence similar to Decatur issue.
Mark Hall is a great athlete and does love himself some big moves.
184, ouch.
Beautiful display of level change, penetrations and misdirections. If I were a young guy on the way up, I would study KMoore video as his attacks are just excellent and pretty.
Gary with the signature win. In truth, up to this point I liked Gary as a wrestler and his moniker, but was pretty ho hum on his chances to AA this year. That match showed me everything I needed to confirm that he is really very good. At the end of the match Tom Ryan was yelling shoot and rather than being overly aggressive and forcing a shot, he stalked Nevills. This is a big thing and here is why. He has done the same thing all season and has improved at it. His finish was something that anyone that has coached wrestling would articulate as beautiful or outstanding. Just a great performance.

FYI: The Buckeyes are trying to get Kinner and Decatur to 15 match threshold to be eligible for RPI which is 1 part of the criteria to qualify a spot.
Koontz and Cleary were heading to wrestle along with Malik to help determine starter. Ironically Koontz and Cleary got dinged up late in week so they couldn’t wrestle. No reason for Malik to wrestle once Koontz was out. He already had the 15 matches.
ps: Hoffman wrestled for fun.
pps: Decatur (actually all wrestlers - but for this case, Decatur) needs 15 matches AT THE TARGET WEIGHT CLASS. Hey - all caps!
I type a lot of goofy stuff from time to time. Well, most of the time. But this is serious business.
