They drill this -- and it shows. It's also SUPER smart. If ref's aren't going to call it, well, it'd be bonkers to not work on it.

Quote from Ethan Moore's post:

"I say this every year but the ride technique PSU uses is stalling and there needs to a rule change.

Stirocci hooks the ankle with his leg and sits on it. That’s stalling. It’s similar to dropping to a leg and hanging there."

I remember Mark Hall & RBY doing that same technique over and over. Is that a PSU thing?"

Add Vincenzo Joseph and Morgan McIntosh to that list.

I would assume Jimmy Gulibon too. If it works, have at it. OSU hasnt been coached on how to properly escapre it after all these years. Sad.

Jimmy G was on my Dodgeball team at a PSU camp. I asked him about it — and their front trip that all they guys that ankle ride are good at it. There is a ton os suttle technique to it that makes it very effective. Being able to sit there with no worry of stall calls helps also.

"Romero and Hoffman both ridden out the entire 3rd period to lose 2-0 each.

Don't care what the top guy was doing/not doing. These guys have to get out or choose neutral."

Amen brother! I said the exact thing to my brother. Also I too believe it’s a stall tactic, but without sounding like sour grapes, osu needs to get the hell off bottom

My point is it meets the same criteria as other positions on top that are now called stalling. It’s a way to prevent movement without attempting to score. How is it different than hanging on the leg with an arm?

And yes I’m bitter about that match.

Quote from Jack Muni's post:

"Malik meets Schroder tonight. Didn't he choose neutral in their dual & lost 1-0? If that happens again (no TD's) will they change strategy and have him take down? IMO, you might as well see what happens now and not at NCAA's in two weeks should they meet there."

Jags clearly wanted him to take neutral in the semis but Malik took down and got out. I think he takes down this time.

Even though Hoffman was wrestling #1 ranked Shultz, as the match went on I was hoping he gets the escape before riding time set in, just to see if he pulls a third period upset. He isn't at the top level yet, but he has improved somewhat this year. A 2-0 loss to the top ranked 197 kid in the nation is a decent effort. Gavin & D'Emileo both have excellent gas tanks, which is nice to see.

There are still a handful of guys wrestling back through the 9th place bracket to have a chance at a wild card. Cleary and Rocky are still wrestling. 141 has Mattin listed, but he’s in for 7th so I think that’s a typo and it should be D’Emilio. 197 doesn’t have the same number of allocations that the other weights do, so I’m not sure where that puts Hoffman. The road for all three runs through Maryland first. D’Emilio will probably have to best Rooks from Indiana to earn the slot. Cleary will likely have a rematch with his first round opponent Model. Rocky will have to go through Branagel...the #2 seed.

I believe it is for use in NCAA seeding and maybe at large selection in a deeper weight classes.

Sasso solid win. Pretty good match for Smith only losing 3-2, but don't thins he was ever going to take Marinelli down.

Still, what happens next year with Smith, Karchla and Romero?

I’d suggest 65, 74, 84. Romero got big in the off season, I’m sure he could be successful moving up. If Gallagher could make 157 next year and we found someone to go 133 we would be vastly improved.
