Quote from Jeremy Park's post:

"Terrible decision to put Mendez down. That’s on the coaches."

I disagree. He had 2+ in riding time and I don’t believe anyone had ridden Mendez all year. No reason to think he couldn’t get out

Probably user error, but can someone please post a good link for updated brackets?

Nago is a sledgehammer on top. Going down is unwise.

He is broke physically. Once he got out of the cradle I would’ve FF that match.

I do think Carson battled and was attacking deep in the 3rd but physically didn’t look right.

No heat.

I am a big fan of tailoring the choice against an opponent's strength.

I agree, don't take bottom against Nagao.

Don't take down against a hammer.

Unless it's regular season and you are trying to figure it out.

I don't know more than anyone else about Carson's condition, but I noticed when he gets ready to wrestle he pulls on the straps on his single and you can see what appears to be white wrapping of some sort around his ribs? Just saying...
And yes, just like we learned about Zane Retherford, don't take bottom against Nagao. Better to learn that now and not 2 weeks from now.

Some of you might recall Tim Krieger and Jim Heffernan. Krieger was one of those guys that was excellent in a couple positions. I recall Heffernan having a hard time dealing with those positions. He took some lopsided losses. However, he almost turned it around when he limited the engagements to only his best positions.

Great reference Rex... Big Kreiger/Heffernan fan

In reference to an earlier post, yes Paddy and Hoffman are still wrestling. Points don’t count, but the allocation spots need to be wrestled out. Hoffman certainly has not looked himself. I have no clue what injury he sustained several weeks ado, but he certainly looks off in terms of his timing. I would think that both guys have bodies if work the would put them in contention for a wild card even if they don’t get one of the allocated spots. It would be much better to earn your way in rather than cross your fingers and hope to get in.
To be honest, I’m not sure how the Bucks are in fourth, but alas, here they are. Stock up…
Sammy looked dominant, and looks primed for another title. D’Emilio had a disappointing 20 seconds in the third period of his first round, but has done his job on the backside and looks to outplace his seed. Orndorf is wrestling solid and also looks to outplace his seed. Bucks have the potential to put five in for third. While unlikely, would be huge for seeding at nationals.
Status quo…
Mendes, even in his first match looked a little pedestrian. Bucks look as if they are “training through” Big Tens. PSU seems to do this a lot. By saying that I’m implying, or maybe hoping that the Bucks have another gear for NCAAs. Several guys lack a little pop. Minnesota is wrestling way above board for them. I’d predict a substantial fall off in two weeks. I’d add Smith, Kharchla, and Romero to this list as well. Smith looks healthy and his consistent self right now. He’s right there with Labs, but just finds himself wrestling into Labriolas wheel house at the end of matches. Fun to watch though. Kharchla’s win over Facundo was needed. His dismantling over Hamiti was eye opening. He did not want any part of that match and it was evident. Romero looks solid, but still hampered a little by his injury. Not bad considering this is his first final.
Stock down…
Obvious with Paddy and Hoffman. Gavin’s is a little more understandable considering the time he’s missed. Gallagher was riding high heading into Big Tens. Sebrecht is a clone of the PSU kid physically. Paddy seems to struggle with length and scrambly guys. The Rutgers loss was head scratching. Not sure what to make of the future at 125. Tough spot to be in for Gonsalez. He had a promising summer, but has not put it together at any point this year. To be frank, he is your starter next year for better or worse. Kilkeary needs a redshirt. Hopefully he makes some jumps

Jared: Thoughtful post. Hope you're correct that the Bucks are "training through" BT's. But that still doesn't explain the rank stupidity of the staff putting Mendez down vs the Minny 133. Bucks never learn.

Hoffman looked rusty; so did Romero. But only one of those two had the skill to overcome it. Missing several weeks of comp is tricky.

Above and beyond, I just think the most obvious conclusion is that the staff needs a shakeup. Tom Ryan has been running the program for nearly 20 years and has had to constantly overcome challenges. Right now his team is bad on top and too many wrestlers are either hitting a plateau or seem to regress a bit. He needs an outsiders perspective and I doubt he's getting it.

let's be honest. This team was supposed to be a lot better than this. This was an AA candidate at every wt squad on paper and I'm sure the staff had higher expectations...like 2nd in the country. Instead, this team looks wobbly and tired. I see Mendez, Sasso, Smith and Romero in the AA mix with Kharchla and D'Emilio as sort of last gasp possibilities. It helps to have Bouzakis, Feldman and Geog ready to step in but there will be some holes next season.

There's a lot to say and a season that still has to play out. So I'll shut my yap, watch the rest of Big Tens and hope for the best.

Can anyone remember a "blue chip"recruit like Carson getting put on their back so much? I know he's banged up but dang that dude has been on his back a lot this year.

Paddy reminds me of Kenny Courts a little bit. If he can hit his technique clean then it's smooth sailing. If he gets in a scramble he looks one step behind and will eventually give up the TD. I think he should go live with Askern for the offseason and learn the art of scrambling. I know Rex would recommend to just stay out of those positions but I'm not sure he can.

Sasso looked great!

Romero is such a beast at this point in his career.

Terrible decision to put Mendez down. When he reached for the head and got flattened out I knew he was in BIG trouble. That was so tight I couldn't breath just watching. I'm sure his arms were rubber in OT after that ride.

Big day for the Bucks today. If they can salvage a 4th and outplace michigan that would be nice.
