I've been noticing more and more guys are choosing neutral against McCrone. He is slowly improving. He loses 6-3 in OT to the #2 guy in the country. And he racks up a lot of pins too.

I read he had that match won and was a bad call by the ref.

Their was a "technical violation" noted that cost McCrone a point, but I don't know what it was. Maybe that was the bad call?

I believe McCrone got called for an illegal outback. I'm not too well versed in the nuances of that rule, but i know Nolf flirted with it frequently, interested to hear about the specifics from somebody like Rex or anyone more knowledgeable than myself (probably most of you on this).

I have not seen the match but a cutback is an illegal move and not a technical violation.
Both cost the offending wrestler a point but if the opponent is injured by an illegal move, it is recovery time. If the offended wrestler can not continue when the recovery time is used up, he wins
If a technical violation is called and an injury is involved, it becomes injury time. If the offended wrestler can not continue, he loses.

For those that subscribe to Flo here is the McCrone-Smith video link. The referee called the infraction a little after seven minutes into the video:
https://www.flowrestling.org/events/12789141-2024-cliff-keen-las-vegas-invitational/videos?playing=13162448&search=mccrone

I wish I could post a picture here which would show the issue. When McCrone tripped Smith backward with his right leg his left foot was on Smith's left foot. I think the rule is that one of McCrone's feet has to be on the mat in order for the trip to be legal, but it wasn't.

It was weak sauce. It could have met the definition momentarily, but it did'nt put excessive pressure or make the knee go in a way it was not meant. I saw a couple way more aggressive and illegal things at the Ironman that did'nt get called.

If he had put his full body weight on Smith and kicked out the far or near leg, then yes. but he didn't and it was actually done in a non-aggressive way to preserve the integrity of Smith and not hurt him.

I have an IG account under rexholmanwrestler which has the clip.

I just saw the match, and it looked like McCrone couldn't see Smiths foot, and when he lightly touched it he immediately move his foot off Smiths. Without that point McCrone wins in regulation.
