Seeds continued...

157: Cannon goes from 8th seed to finalist. Heckuva tournament for him.

165: Gallagher finishes 7th as the 9th seed.

174: Kharchla will wrestle for 3rd as the 2nd seed. He had a hiccup in the loss to Illinois. Hopefully he corrects that result.

184: Rogotzke had a forgettable BT tourney finishing 10th with one win. Came is as the 8th seed.

197: Shumate cobbled together a couple wins and ended up 8th as the 9th seed.

285: Feldman will wrestle for 5th as the 4th seed. Losing again to Kueter is disappointing. Feldman's body language is different when I watch him compared to when he was rolling last season. Not sure if his opponent's have figured him out or if something else is going on.

With all the top heavyweights finishing their college careers this year, Feldman better figure out how to get off bottom, because him and Kueter will be in the top 5 next season.

Shtty tourney for Jesse. Suddenly he looks figured out. Bucks staff needs to earn their pay over the next few weeks getting him back to championship form.

What concerns me is in the dual and the Big Tens Jesse got to Bartlett's leg but got countered both times, they have to figure it out.

I just saw on the Bucs website that nine Buckeyes qualified for NCAA Tournament, all but Rogotzke, who will have to see if he gets one of the five at-large bids. I don't know who decides the five.

It’s easy to be figured out when you wrestle someone 2+ times a year.

When he starts loosing to non title contenders I will be concerned.

Agreed. But Jesse needs to finish when he has opportunities. He just looks flat. It may be simply that he needs the challenge of NCAA's to get his mojo back.

I would agree with that. He does look flat and wonder if the grind is catching up with him.

Saw a stat on X today that said 40% of the qualifiers at 285. this year have been in college for at least 6 years.

That's crazy.

One thing to consider is that Cannon did not wrestle a full season or endure the grind of a full big ten schedule. He has roughly the same number of matches as a Penn State starter.

If a guy has the capacity to compete, he needs enough matches to improve upon things and get timing and flow to high level. Too much season results in diminishing returns with potential for injury and mental fatigue.

I think Barr wrestles impaired at NCAAs due to injury. He doesn't have 3 titles to his name like Starrocci last year and has been redlining it all season; going overdrive in the third period. When your offense is based on your mobility which is impaired and it's the only way you know how to wrestle. Not a great situation.

Also, blood in the water. Coaches know who got dinged up at conferences. You're in someone's sites as is an affected appendage. Very few can go into the NCAA with real injury and compete at a high enough level to make it to the third day. i.e. Guy has a rib issue; that dude is getting tight waisted into next week

I like Jesse as the 4th seed and Hardy as #1, rubber match goes to Jesse.

Seeding at 141 will be a doozy. You've got: 1) the four big guns from the Big Ten; 2) three from the Big 12 - champ Happel of UNI, runner-up (in tie-breaker) Jamison, plus 3rd placer Alirez who of course is a past NCAA champ; and
3) perhaps the Navy kid (EIWA champ).
I'd sure hope there is some separation btwn these eight and the rest of the field. But even assuming so, the quarters in this bracket are going to be an absolute bear.

But welcome to the NCAA tourney, right?

Really enjoyed watching Cannon. Dominated the #1 seed from Maryland, ditto re the Minne kid who'd majored him just a few weeks back, then really competed against Kasak - got in deep/nearly scored a time or three, before rushing things a bit/sacrificing position in the final minute. He's strong on his feet, top, and bottom, plus he's aggressive and seems to have a really good motor. And when he wins, he comes across as if he's been there before. So I'm really hoping he has a good NCAA tourney.

Also, hope Rogotzke finds a way to sneak in, notwithstanding the DQ, blech. Like McCrone, he is a potential "bad draw," and has the chance to win a match or three, including bonus.

Couple thoughts:

- A few teams seem to be on an upswing; Illinois, Maryland, and Minnesota. Not that MN has been bad, but this was a great season for them.

Illinois is a talent-rich state that has struggled to hold on to their blue-chip recruits. If Poeta can build momentum it's a sleeping giant program. I read that they are going to follow the Ohio State model and build a Wrestling/Volleyball arena. That's a sign of commitment from the administration.

Coach Clemsen had made Maryland relevant. They were scrappy! Love to see them getting better.

- The difference on coach's in the corner was mind-boggling. A couple staffs lose their minds and are all over the refs. I found Nebraska's staff borderline obnoxious, specifically Dlagnev. At one point I saw four of their coaches arguing at the table.

On the flip-side, the Bucks are so calm. I like this better, but is sure seemed Nebraska's fight in the corner showed up on the mat.

- Iowa is in trouble. I know they signed Bassett but the allure is gone. I've always like Iowa but this model isn't working.

Iowa has struggled mightily with developing talent in recent years and covered it up by grabbing studs from the portal. They may be a program which needs a new voice.
