Discussion Topic: The Mt Rushmore of Ohio Collegiate Competitors--Ohio Schools Only
Ben Golden added to this discussion on August 17, 2025

Logan had 3 career losses to Snyder’s 5–also wrestled a lot more matches as Snyder didn’t compete much his last 3 years.

Snyder 75-5. Logan 119-3.

Logan also has an edge in dominance.

I too would give it to Logan. One of my main reasons he, imo, ushered in the new wrestling era at OSU. I believe his recruitment was the catalyst.

You're right about that. He elevated the team around him. Something kind of crazy about Logan's career: His high school had never won a team state title until he led them to that his senior year (he was also their first individual state champ). Ohio State had never won a team title until he led them to that his senior year. Then in 2017 he was also a part of the first US MFS team to win the World Championships in decades.

In 1995, Albert Belle had one of the greatest slugging seasons in the history of baseball. However, the east coast baseball media hated him because he was a surly SOB. They decided to invent an argument that Mo Vaughan, a Boston Red Sox power hitter, was more deserving. They put Mo Vaughan on the cover of Sports Illustrated with the title "Mo Valuable" and made their case. Statistically, it didn't hold up. But Vaughan was chosen the AL MVP in one of the great ripoffs in baseball history.

Choosing Stieber over Snyder is the same thing. We like Stieber better. We want it to be Stieber. But Snyder is a 2x Olympics finalist (Gold and Silver), a 3x World Champion, 2x World Silver Medalist and a 2x World Bronze Medalist. Stieber is a 1x World Champion.

There's no real argument here. Two amazing wrestlers but one clearly has a better resume.

Now, if someone wants to argue that Snyder has not gotten better since heading to State College, and probably should have stayed put, I'm all for reading it.

Hank, as stated previously, my argument is based on the title being “collegiate,” which to me means NCAA. If you’re including non-collegiate stuff in there, agreed Snyder is far superior in that.

It is KS because he was Olympic Champ while being an "collegiate" athlete. The first Olympic Champ to return to school after reaching the pinnacle in our amazing sport. Being outweighed by 40+ pounds while winning 3 National Titles is also overlooked. Beating a 2x returning National Champion in "Gwiz"( who had very good international success) and Adam Coon who was absolutely huge. Literally one mental lapse from being a 4x-timer without a redshirt. If you want to go by purely character it is Logan all day! However,if we are grading by the sport of wrestling and the skill level in college it isn't that close imo.

Wilmington Colllege is Jimmy Wallace.

National Champ and multiple time placed. He literally averaged about 8-9 take downs a match. Tank was unreal.

I worked with someone who was an All-American at Hiram College, so I looked up the university records. Daryl Stumph was a 3 time AA there, so I would go with him.

No idea for my alma mater at University of Dayton, so I could nominate myself! I would probably have a stronger case if I had competed for 4 years.

In fairness to you and others, I didn't offer distinct criteria. I meant it to be based on one's full career with the primary focus on their time at the university.

Similar issue when discussing Cleveland State. Matt Ghaffari never placed at NCAA's but won Olympic Silver. Tony Digiovanni was a 2xAA for CSU and had a distinguished coaching career. Who's the pick?

Bob Kosins (Bellbrook-Runner Up, lost IMO because ref didn't count clear back points)

I'm inclined to agree but do have to ask: are we diminishing Olympic silver because it was greco?
