Nebraska is one of the best teams in the country. Recall that they started the year ranked second. Anytime you go into an opponent’s home turf and pull out a win you take it. It was also without the aid of one of your #1s. Prior to the dual it was very clear that there was a scenario (even with Cannon) that the Bucks lose 157-285, and they almost did. The separation between wins and loses in those overtime matches is Grit. Minto, Allred, and the 197 (plus Stiles and Feldman) all demonstrated it. All of those matches could go either way, but as Hank said, those are the matches that determine wins in the blood round. A win is a win, take anyway you can get it.

Should we be talking about the fact Mendez annihilated Vombauer and Hardy this weekend? ;)

I did. He has leveled up -- which is impressive for a 2x Champ.

Also worth noting--Nick Feldman looks fantastic. His career has had ebbs and flows but he's currently wrestling really well. Kudos to him.

A.J. should be called for stalling and his head taps are borderline jabs. "

I just watched the match and the number of "taps" and the amount of backing all around the mat (plus dropping to the knees) without being called for stalling just amazed me. Then Feldman gets rung up on an "easy" call??

And we don't talk enough about Davino. He crushed Cannon on Friday and then won a gritty, controlled bout with Van Dee Sunday. Really nice work.
Good weekend for Stiles as well. He was sucking wind by the middle of his match with Lamer but never fell apart. That would have been an easy match to lose.

I lost never feel confident about Stiles's matches while watching them, but he has a knack.
As others have mentioned, you can see a bit of Mendez's mentality and habits in Davino, great to see.

Stiles is starting to grow on me, he is a bit of a character and you never really know what you are going to get from him. With him it's not over til it's over. He has managed to get to #4 ranking, so I'll take it.

I agree with both of you. He does not possess a dynamic offense. He’s funky enough to wrestle into positions where he can occasionally get guys in a cradle. I will admit the head on shots drive me a little nuts as I’m sure anyone who coached high school wrestling could attest to. His it factor is his unwillingness to surrender takedowns, and his teflon type attitude. I’m here for it. That’s the kind of guy you don’t want to wrestle in the blood round. You can’t put him away. I do think someone like Van Ness, who has a high attack rate, is a bad matchup for him. He needs to lull guys to sleep.
