Hank: I just don't get the analogy at all. That could be more me than you. But killing one's parents can't possibly be compared to fighting a war that takes out a genocidal dictator, no matter how much you disagree with going there in the first place.
I'm not sure anyone is suggesting that we all have to support every one of W's positions during wartime, only that it doesn't get to the point of such vitriole about the war that it affects the military's morale while they are in the middle of fighting a difficult war.
When people like Pelosi want to just stop funding altogether to get back at Bush, she only hurts the military. I can't believe she wins her seat in California, let alone be elected Speaker of the House.
Does Rella get to wrestle right away in the B10 if he gets kicked off of Penn State's team rather than ask to transfer which I know would require a one year sit out?

RF posts, "Does Rella get to wrestle right away in the B10 if he
gets kicked off of Penn State's team
rather than ask to transfer which I know would require a one year sit out?"
1) we don't know that Rella (or Platt) were "kicked off the team"-- in fact
Platt's high school coach
already denied to me that Platt was in fact "dismissed", he says Platt was leaving anyway. None of us knows for certain, so let's not jump to conclusions.
2) yes Rella sits a year and he cant get any athletic scholarship money if he goes from Penn St to another Big Ten school. Thats the rules. A year off and Dave Rella would be a strong addition to Ohio St (or to any college), at 174, imo.

Just for the record I was upset yesterday when I read some of the comments, because this kind of stuff hits close to home. To be honest even though this is a wrestling forum it’s good to hear from wrestlers and wrestling coaches and fans about their opinions on other topics.
I respect Vince Disabato very, very much. I am sending four of my wrestlers to his camp. I wrestled for and coached under his cousin Andy. I know he has a strong opinion on things and that is what makes his family so unique and special.
Hank, I do not know you, and I was not referring to you about Birkenstocks and bean sprouts. Before I moved to Pataskala, (Mr. Ramsey, Licking Heights coached by Bo) I lived in Clintonville a very progressive district of Columbus among many others. My roommate was my twin Brother SGT. Nell, every Saturday we would see the protesters on the street corners.
Hank with all do respect I know your type, you speak so strongly on things that you have learned from reading the paper, I can tell you are an educated man. This is the last thing I am going to say on this topic. Hank do you have Military or an FBI clearance? I do not think you do. You have no idea on what intelligence the government had or has, you have no idea what the military in our country is already planning to do about Iran, you have no idea about US patrols being scheduled for other areas of that region. Our country got attacked Hank, and you are fooling yourself if you think Afghanistan was the only place terrorist are harbored, but its ok you don’t have to fight them. Some times people are too smart for their own good.

Erik et all;
I appreciate your kind words and the passion from which you write. K. Ramsey Sr., again I cannot and will not disagree with your stances with the promotion of amateur wrestling in this wonderful country that we all share. There are many to blame for the lack of promotion of our sacred sport and the original martial art.
It is completely obvious to me that there are people in many nations that care little for the USA. Those willing to sacrafice themselves and innocent others for their causes. I have had many that I have close feelings for that have laid their lives on the line in the Middle East. Some have come back and others have not
I can recall coming down the stairs of our home to see my father, who served honorably in Korea, sobbing as he watched a John Wayne war movie. I particularly recall when my late mother and I asked him why he would watch these movies when they reminded him of his days in Korea and would bring back many horrible memories of all that he witnessed and had been a participant? He didn't have an explanation. He just continued this practice. War takes its toll on everyone years long past its time. Not just the vanquished but the victors also.
The reason for my original post was to state exactly what I wrote. The Slupak Grant is in peril. Another toll of this two fronted war. Since this is a wrestling thread may I ask...how many would want to step on the mat with an opponent would any of us want an opponent on our hind quarters also?
And as I had expected, there comes a strike polar division in the responses...similar to the polar divisions that are exemplified through this country. It is not only unfortunate but the reality.
Now, Roe Fox I agree that holding the military hostage is abominable. I also feel that the diplomacy that was displayed by George H.W. Bush was cast asside by the present administration.
The Slupak Grant is before the congress now as well as the rest of the budget. Let's hope that there are those that see that this Grant is important enough to save.

i may have posted incorrectly, that is being checked on as we speak. i am told that depending on what the release stipulates Rella & Platt may or may not be able to wrestle in the Big Ten or for Ohio St ??? so stay tuned, apparently there are releases and releases with stipulations.

Erik:
When you decide to run for political office, call me. I will help support anyone with the ability to sift through the BS and make intelligent decisions. Facts are facts, BS is BS. Freedom is a birth right for everyone and as an American I hope we never stop helping people who do not have freedom.

Vince:
I have a question for you. If the Slupak Grant is before Congress now and the Democrats are in control of Congress, why would you blame GWB for the grant being canceled? Wouldn't the Democratic majorities in the House and Senate be responsible?

Sometimes I find it easier to lump DC into one big group (politicians) as opposed to two groups (Rep. and Dem.).
Lord help my cynicism.
Bob: What is the likelyhood we land but one PSU transfer? Are the chances as good as any other BigTen school or do you think the two might lean BigXII, Pac10 or other???

Mark N,
the issue is confusing, we need clarification on a couple things--- i've been thinking Rella and Platt would have to sit for a year if they went to another Big Ten school,
now i'm not so sure ???
apparently much depends how their release was worded--- but since i don't know that and all the intracacies of the system, i don't want to speculate any more.
i think Ohio st would have a good chance to get Dave Rella, the question is does he have to sit a year or not ??
if he went to another conference he could still get athletic scholarship aid which he could Not get if he stayed in the Big Ten, how much does money matter to him??
Interestingly at NCAAs, Rella went 2 & 2, and beat one-time Ohio st recruit Patrovich now of Hofstra, 14-5.
Platt ?? re Ohio St i don't know, but i do know both Okla St and Iowa St need a 197 and i would think PLatt would very possibly end up at one of those two schools.

Ken:
So glad you asked. You see the Dems are in control of the House and the Senate presently although the Senate majority is 50-49. The honoarble Joe Lieberman who decided to be an Independant after years of being a Dem being the other vote.
Not a great majority in the Senate when it takes 2/3rds to pass now is it?
And with a late vote recently that the House aprove a ratification to honor the mothers of this country on Mother's Day which is tomorrow and 178 Republicans vote down the ratification...no kidding here...I have little faith in the sanctity of common sense.
When W. took office and professed to be a "Conservative" and blew away a surplas within 90 days and mounted a national debt greater than even Reagan compiled, putting the American Dollar on a similar level as the Mexican Peso, I am sorry that I have so little faith in anything that the Republicans offer.
I suppose that term "Conservative" to these people is similar to Imelda Marcos buying shoes.
I Hope that the powers that make the decisions on the Appropriations Comittees for the House and Senate will realize that the Slupak Grant, being under $1 million, that it is just a spat in the frying pan compared to the deficit that this administration has incurred presently and down the road.
I am not having anymore confidense in the Dems on this matter either. But it was the Administration that put Slupak on the chopping block and the congress now has the vote.

There you go. Maybe I didn't have my head up my a-- after all. Perhaps we have our 174!
Vince: in my opinion, I wouldn't have confidence in any of our three choices this year for president. But if you feel that way start something. I'm sure many people on this forum would help. Takes some money, patience and planning but it can be done.
By the way, I tried it this year. May try it again. One thing about most wrestlers I know, we don't quit. Change things the right way. If you're in Columbus and run for something I'll come down for a fundraiser (if its under $100: I have kids).

RF,
no one disagreed--- from day one many of us said Rella would be perfect for 174---- its just a matter of is it next season or the season after that he would be eligible, if he goes to Ohio St ?
I'm just not clear on the rules. And don't yet know what the "release stipulates".
(the former Michigan football player who is transfering to Ohio St, Justin Boren, he has to sit next season out.)
