This would hit as hard as when we lost Kyle Snyder and Greg Kerkvliet. Let’s hope he has a change of heart.

"I’m pretty sure Tom Ryan at this point let's Rocco wrestle. This feels like a financially related move."
|
It may be a financial decision now but it would never have gotten to that point if Ryan didn't mess up in the first place. BTW, hope you don't make a habit of betting."
|
Jeff you seem to be in the know, do you think he leaves or is there a chance to salvage this?"
|
Hoping it can be salvaged but it's a long shot."
|
If that's the case. I'm officially done with TR. Can't let a kid like Rocco leave.
Hopefully they let him wrestle this year before he leaves."
|
If all this is true, why would he wrestle now and burn a year of eligibility?

Tom Ryan just posted “BUCKEYE! @rocco1welsh” on FB stories.
So maybe these were/are baseless rumors.
Or more probably, maybe they’ve convinced him to stay?
I sure hope so.
What a crazy world college sports has become.
And Pat Mineo just posted “Rocco Welsh staying in Columbus after meeting with staff.”

People had me fooled also! Man I hate social media sometimes. The ups and downs of today were a lot. Like I originally thought I didn’t think Tom would make Rocco mad enough to leave. He is about as good of human as possible. I was worried about the Nil incentives however
I would have won my bet also! I wasn’t worried until he was reported in Stillwater. I thought it was over at that point! This is important to land Bassett and Forrest!

Boy I was ready to write a diatribe about the mainstream acceptance of tampering. Then I got home from jiu jitsu, and all was right with the world again.

Does it feel a little like he was being smart and figuring out his market value at Okie State and then maybe coming back and saying my NIL needs adjustment.

Rex I think that may have been exactly the case. I also think with what the buckeyes offered to blaze and now Bassett could have made him a little envious. Anyways glad we secured him. I hope he wrestles Saturday at 184 to be honest.

Like most of you, I hated the idea of Rocco leaving. I also felt there was so much I didn't know that I actually kept my mouth shut.
His decision to stay is of enormous consequence to a Buckeye program that wants to remain a powerhouse. As a Buckeye wrestling fan, I'm feeling much better.
Tom Ryan was always a proponent of putting his best lineup on the mat. Now's the time to stick with that philosophy.

With Starocci and Keck at 184, I can't see that being a wise decision (if Rocco is a 184).

I’m with you. Let them wrestle. If he’s the best, he needs to start. With the portal, there is no waiting until next year. It’s a great exercise planning the best lineups over the next few years but the wrestlers have more power now.
It’s generally in a wrestlers nature to think he/she can beat anybody. If not, why get on the mat? That seems especially true for today’s generation, who quite frankly are more capable overall due to advances in training, scouting, etc.
Maybe Rocco thinks he can beat Stall-rocci or Keck. He was within a takedown of a title as a freshman.

Being reported on Bucknuts Geog tore his groin and is out for season.
I’m curious what weight Welsh wants to wrestle. Rumors he walks around at 205/10.
