Rex: Seems to me like Mendez looks a bit flat. Do you think he would have benefitted from more rest during the season?

Just saw Flo moved Cannon from 9th to 3rd in their rankings behind Kasak and Shapiro, WOW. They have Bartlett, Hardy, Mendez and Vombaur as the top 4 at 141.

There rankings make no sense to me. Nic is behind 3 guys he finished ahead of 2 of them he beat.
Feldman and others are behind Tremble and he didn’t qualify yet and needs an at large bid. I’m sure he will get it but still.

Quote from Jack Muni's post:
|
"I just saw on the Bucs website that nine Buckeyes qualified for NCAA Tournament, all but Rogotzke, who will have to see if he gets one of the five at-large bids. I don't know who decides the five."

Ryder got an at large bid.

Hank-
I'm seeing what you are seeing. Last year he was a man on a mission. Plus, he almost made the Olympic team.
Anyway, a lot talented and skilled wrestlers haven't been National Champs at that weight. They wake up every morning hungry for that title. They are selfishly pursuing greatness, which is what it takes.
Brock Hardy looks like a different version this year.
Nebraska typically underperforms at Nationals. Is this the year, they turn it around? I don't know. They have Hardy and Lovett who are very capable.
Parco and Teemer did not do their best wrestling at Big Tens.
It's a long season and the thing that matters most in those guys minds is wrestling and winning that title on Saturday night at the NCAA. Winning a Big Ten title is nice but it's not the big goal. What happened yesterday doesn't matter, what you influence today does.
As far as rest goes, I'd use last year and Vito as an example. He didn't come around to top form until NCAAs. It's about getting your mind right and sometimes a season (cumulative preparation and workload) works for you or against you.
If Jesses can flip a switch, I'm impressed.

Good points. Agree about Hardy--he looks like he's a level better. The season's grind is real and Mendez never rested. And, as you mentioned, some guys get really hungry.
I think Mendez will be ready at NCAA's.
