I am not a very prolific poster here, but I find it disturbing that people are so willing to question the integrity of the officials based on a poor point of view internet video. Why would an official care who was on the mat? How does the outcome affect him?

Maybe, just maybe he not only had a better view than anyone here, but maybe, just maybe he has the integrity to make the right call. Question for all of you, if you were in the same situation as the official, would you make the correct call regardless of who was on the mat? If you answer yes, why would you assume that the official would not do the same thing? What has he done for you to question his motives? Why do you think you know the situation better than the man who was RIGHT there.

Actually, I will go out on a limb and speculate that it would actually enhance his position with coaches to call the pin. They would know that he was willing to make a tough call, no matter the circumstances.

I disagree. The referee's are aware of what is what and who is who. You can see clearly that Jameson was pinned. We all would like to think we would make the call, but reality is many times different then what we think. That doesn't mean that we think less of refs, we just know they are human too.

Well, what matches are you looking most forward too, and is there any additional drama we need to know about.

It seems like there was some good 3rd place finish bouts.

Please forward any information, it would be much appreciated. thanks in advance-

John: I agree with you. I watched the video and it was impossible to tell whether or not Jameson was pinned. Gotta give the official the benefit of the doubt.

Jameson has some very poor habits--mainly sloppiness. This will quickly end in college. He's a great talent. He's just used to "funking" his way out of situations without using the proper effort.

Well, I hope I'm not being greedy, but can we can we get a blow by blow of the finals? If not a blow-by-blow, how about a brief by brief?

Ransick 8 for 9 in winners thus far , for those counting. Impressive?

Quote from Mark Viviani's post:

"I agree, looks pretty flat to me."

From where Dan and I were sitting it was a pin, but I guess the refs had the best view...

Shouldn't you be out partying? Congrats on your state title!

So what's everyone think of the Scales-Cogar match?...did he get the two at the end or no?

I'm a little surprised by the lack of post tournament analysis. But, it has been a long year and I'm sure these guys have worked hard thorughout, but I hope at some point we can get a thorough analysis of "States" and we can argue some more on if Jameson was pinned or not. Congrats to him, of course, on being a 4x champ.

Rob: I think that wrestling forums have had less chatter this year than in the past. To paraphrase Bob Preusse: perhaps the novelty has worn off. I am currently watching all the state finals matches on Flowrestling.org ( I love these guys!) and plan to offer up some analysis when finished.

Chue: Scales has the two. Cogar misses the headlock, hits the mat and Scales grabs hold of him while in control. His feet are in bounds initially though both quickly get dragged out. I thought it was a gusty call as well as the correct one. Incidentally, Cogar probably should not have tried the headlock. But I applaud him. While losing in the state finals has to hurt, Cogar lost because he was aggressive. Ironically, it looked like Cogar was going to score on that beautiful snatch single he hit late in the match. I even saw Dave Mariola, jr jumping in the air because he was so sure that Cogar's takedown was imminent. But Cogar's arms are short and Scales has great hips. Scales did an incredible job of hip heisting out of trouble the moment his butt hit the mat.

I think Scales has the potential to be the best 285 prospect Ohio has produced in several years. He's long, strong and has great hips. He needs to learn a few good shots and the finishes that go with him. If he does, he'll be a major recruit (assuming he's a decent student).

Final thought--in spite of the low score, I thought Cogar v Scales was a classic finals battle. The styles varied greatly but both were simply bigger, stronger and faster than everyone else at the weight. I also applaud the officials for allowing the action to determine the winner. One can easily envision other officials giving a stall call to tie it up. That just ruins the outcome.

I'm overwhelmed.

FIVE pages. for D1?! whoaa. I was blown away by Tony Jameson's first round match. Don't shoot me, but I wasn't overly impressed with him..even in the finals. 8-4? c'mon...and I agree with that others were saying about him. In a word, he's just sloppy. He's a better athlete than all the others now, that's for sure, but unless he's wililng to change his "do whatever" mindset, he could run into problems in college.

any word on him redshirting? I think that if he's not stubborn and can work on the basic techniques he will go very far, but if not, a redshirt may be a good idea. Though I'm not a fan of redshirting in general, this may be one case where I really think he should.

You know, this was a great match. Might have been the best if it weren't for the Horner/Squire match. Lots of action and lots of what ifs in the 215 championship match. I loved how the refs let the two wrestle to the end rather then a stalling call to either win or tie the match.

About Jameson during the tournament, I think that he got a little too confident in his "funk" and tried to do the things that he shouldn't have done like sitting straight to his butt and getting caught like he did against Rudy Hendon. However, you gotta give him credit for pulling it out for the win. Everyone had to have loved how he whipped out the OSU flag after his win and ran around the mat. As for college, he's going to have to tune-up his technique. Wrestlers in college are so much for sound that all his "funkiness" won't work as well as in highschool.

Chue: Horner v Squire was a fabulous match. These two are both fine D1 college prospects.

Does anyone know if Horner has committed to a college yet? Would love to see him wrestle for a good college. Seeing how Squire is only a sophomore, I would doubt he has committed at such an early age.
