Quick question for Jim Behrens -
Ferrari took a head injury time-out as time expired in the second period.
I noted that we did not get our choice - which to my understanding you usually get when your opponent takes an injury time-out, other than blood time.
Is that because time had expired to end the period?
Or is head injury time treated like blood time?
Or did the refs miss this?
Welcome/appreciate your input."

First, four statements/questions to absolve me of being wrong. LOL

1) I have no idea what the NCAA rule book says regarding this and
2) I don't know who was supposed have the choice.
3) Was the injury signaled within the actual second period OR had time expired?
4) Was there blood time or HNC time allocated rather than injury time?

The reason I ask is that, for us with HS rules, if the injury was taken at 1:59, there would be one second left and the opponent would get the choice for that one second.

If it was taken after the conclusion of the second period (after the whistle), and assuming no IT was taken, who would have had the choice?

If the opponent, who had not taken IT, already had the choice, he would get two choices. One at the start of the third period and one upon the first restart.
If the wrestler who took IT was to have the choice, he lost it.

Blood time would not affect the choice at least in HS. HNC might but not knowing how the college rules are applied, I have to plead ignorance.

With HS rules, if you want to really confuse yourself, look at Rule 8-2-1 a-j. It will make your head hurt. b and c address your question at least for HS.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Yes it does.

McCrone went out right away and got an early td and then rode the guy into the ground. He set a tone for the team.

Davino reminds me of....Jesse Mendez. Ferocious competitor with excellent all around skills.

Mendez is wrestling at an exceptionally high level and that tells you how good Hardy is. Hardy, however, got his butt kicked his next match which tells you how much this loss took out of him.

Stiles finally gave us a sense of who he is. Very scrambly, unorthodox guy. Lots of hocus pocus wrestling but he's good at it.

Cannon just outfoxed Taylor. Love his pace.

Nice bounceback for Gallagher. He's showing an improvement in tactics.

Kharchla is once again reminding me of Kaleb Romero. For him, the skill isn't in question. It's how he'll be at the end of the year. High AA caliber competitor for sure.

Fishback continues to make us forget Rocco what's his name. Love how aggressively he competes.

Shumate made a few tactical mistakes. He's close to good. Geog has more dynamic offense but one can't predict his conditioning or his health.

Feldman wrestled a perfect match against Ferrari. Once again, I'm going to use the word "tactics". He had a plan and stuck to it for 7 minutes. That will be what it takes for him to get high on the podium.

I'm not Jim, but I'm pretty sure that a head injury is treated the same as blood time in regards to not affecting choice.

I saw a video of the match in question and to be honest, I have no clue.
There was no blood (that I saw) so that is out.
Neither official signaled HNC and I did not see any AHCP signal or ask for the time.
I will ask some of the college officials I know and see what they say.

Revision: I watched it again and it looks like Ferrari might have had a cut near his eye. I can't tell for sure. If so, that might explain the lack of choice.

Stop this mccrone vs bouzakis debate. After this weekend bouzakis has a strong argument to be number one overall!! Mccrone borderline top 20

I stand corrected. Clearly he can wrestle with anyone at 133.

Nick -
Who are you arguing with?
And why now?
The Buckeyes - including McCrone - had a GREAT weekend.
So enjoy!

Half this site claims mccrone is the better wrestler. Bouzakis has a case to be the number one ranked wrestler in america. Mccrone has stuggles with two scrubs. It’s clear as day who the starter is. Look at peterson and volks results. Bouzakis may be an NCAA champ or at least high placer. Mccrone goes 2-2 at best case scenario imo.

The argument was not that he was the better wrestler but that he had earned the spot because he won the head to head at a tournament which was the criteria that was specified by the coaching staff. Who are you to call any Division 1 wrestler a scrub? I'm willing to bet that Brendan McCrone or any of these other guys whose skills and accomplishments you like to disparage could dust you off in under a minute. I like this site because there are a lot of knowledgeable people on it who competed and coached at a high level. There tends to be good discussion and most people seem to be able to engage in this sort of discourse without coming off as total douchebags.
