Pre-Finals thoughts: Can’t help but feel a bit disappointed because the NCAA tournament performance doesn’t live up to the way the Bucks as a whole competed the rest of the season, but there is a very true secondary story.

A lot of the Buckeyes wrestled with a ton of fight this weekend: Mendez, Davino, Cannon, Gallagher, Kharchla, Geog. Feldman too, kind of—seemed he had some mobility issues. Those guys wrestled with an intensity that (aside from Mendez) was not visible last year. Ton of improvement.

If Bouzakis and Feldman came even close to matching the expectations they set in the season, this tournament would feel pretty good.

Quote from Brady Hiatt's post:

"There is a two week break from B1G to NCAA's. Unless they just grind incredibly hard those two weeks, you should be fresh (minus those with injuries) heading into the NCAA's. JMHO.

To my eyes, Fishback was more mental (lost belief losing all those close OT matches) than physical."

Agree. But I also think at some point the staff needed to sit him out of some of those tough matches and let him rebuild his confidence. He was a much better wrestler earlier in the season. He needed to rediscover that ability.

My hearts breaks for Jesse, that sucks, but one hell of a career resume he had at Ohio State. I hope he’s a buckeye for life.

I wasn’t worrid because I thought Mendez would get a double on him and finish like the 41 for Iowa did (bit he didn’t finish).

I’d still take Mendez and his style over Vega. If Vega’s opponents don’t shoot, it’s a staring contest. But he is disciplined enough to stay wrestling in only his style.

The match 184 was very satisfying.

Amen, a lot of that is sour grapes I know, but when you play with fire you’re bound to get burned. Welch survived numerous matches (Fishback included) by the skin of his teeth, he’ll need to open up the offense (or not) wrestlers are figuring it out

I stick to the opinion that Welsh is no better this year than he was his freshman year at Ohio State.

So true, 4-1 OT matches over and over, obviously I was ok with it when he was in Columbus, but $ talks.

Shout out to Ben Davino, you’re awesome!! And I know I’m a homer, but I’m so tired of the Jax Forrest love fest. I heard more about Jax, blaze, and Seidel than Davino, I have no idea why. This kid has done everything right. “He was in high school at the beginning of the season”. Yeah, yeah. Davino is literally 3 months older than Jax. Again, sour grapes and homerism on full display right now

Oh no, he has to be better because he left OSU to get better partners in the room. I guess it was just luck his freshman year, being that he had such inferior partners to wrestle with in the OSU room.

Ben and Jesse both wrestled great matches. Super proud of these young men. Both great Buckeyes. Also very happy for the 184 result. Max seems like a real class act.

Buckeyes showed a lot of fight this weekend. Hurts at the moment. Time to lick wounds.

Was impressed with the poise with which Mendez received his defeat. Looked him in the eye, firm hand shake, said good match. Mature, accountable toughness.
